Just do it.

I was actually excited to be on jury. The selection process is the rough part. I got dismissed when I said I was an engineer though.

Although I do believe that we should do our civic duty and show up jury duty, I have a pretty good method for not getting picked.
I show up in a suit and tie, and sit there quietly reading my Rush Limbaugh book. I've never made it past the first round.

I was just in jury duty. I answered questions from lawyers, raised my hand. Several people did. All the 12 plus 13 alternate didn't say a word. My advice. Talk. Want to get picked. Don't talk. Don't raise hand.

Here in Houston, they ask you, if by looking at the defendant….you have any belief systems from or preconceived notions that would prevent you from making an honest judgment.
I raised my hand and said yes, and was dismissed immediately.

Tell them you believe in the death penalty. Works every time.

Back in the day some radio show said they sent someone in to jury duty dressed head to toe in solid purple. Shoes, socks, pants, shirt, hat. They said he was immediately dismissed. I don't think it's true, but every time I hear about getting out of jury duty, I think of it and it makes me laugh.

This absolutely works. Excused and never called back.

Was the letter sent to you certified?
No. It never is. Mail gets lost all the time. Wink, wink.

quote:Might be a by-Parish thing as I have lived in state again since 1/2001 and never been called to jury duty. Back when I went to LaTech for my 1st degree in the early 80's and was registered to vote I got called but since I was a college student out of town they gave me a pass. (although grandma was scared out her wits right after I moved back, guy with same name down to middle initial was listed in little local newspaper as warrant for failure to appear for jury duty)
Here's a hint for avoiding jury duty in LA altogether: Do NOT register to vote.
They’ve gone to using driver’s license or something, otherwise I would have not been called the last 3 times.
ETA: the early 80's was the last and only time I bothered to register to vote and/or vote. Reagan lied about respecting Americans and Freedom by ramping up the militarism of the police agencies nationwide, instituting cash grabs through revamping the seizure laws, that sort of stuff. Never trusted nor cared about anything any politician has had to say since and refuse to participate in fiction of free and fair elections, hope everyone now sees the light on election fraud and that the light is a freight train heading straight for us all. Refuse to participate in the fraud and fiction of elections. Just another cash grift and power grab by those with more brains than the voters is the reality.

When they’re done with the boilerplate explanation of why you’re there and the important role in the judicial system the jury plays, just raise your hand and when called on say the following:
“Can I be put on a murder case? I’ve always wanted to give someone the death penalty”.
“Can I be put on a murder case? I’ve always wanted to give someone the death penalty”.

I am not registered and have never had jury duty. If it ain’t broke, I won’t fix it

I completely agree, but it sure would be nice to be able to schedule it in advance. Why is there not an app for this? Give people a bit of a heads up to plan around it.

I went last week and sat through jury selection. The people that spoke the most and answered questions were not selected. Just act confused if you get to that point. The judge did ask if anyone has a doctors appointment that would be hard to reschedule or any travel in the next couple days. Those people were excused. I know that's not the case every time, but it worked for me. I did have a doctor's appointment though.
