AI fricking sucks. Any time I ask a question it gives me some bullshite answer and actually doesn’t answer the question or it gets it completely wrong. I don’t understand the fascination with this shite

Now this is what AI is supposed to be used for, the more accurate the more prepared we'll be for disasters. Lives and millions saved

User error. GIGO. It’s an LLM so you have to actually use your brain a little to use it properly.

Without viewing the actual architecture I would assume machine learning matrix multiplication using 3D transformers and neural networks from decades of stored historical weather data.

The marinas west of Mobile weren’t evacuated saving likely millions of boat owners fuel expenses.

Cruising the coast went on as scheduled.

All of the official track forecasts for #Isaias from the NHC.

This animation follows every National Hurricane Center (NHC) advisory from 4 PM Central Time Tuesday, October 6, through landfall near Destin, Florida, Friday evening at 8:30 PM CT, and the system’s subsequent transition to post-tropical over southern Alabama.

Throughout the sequence, the eventual landfall location remained inside the office forecast track area, or “cone” - initially along its right-hand side. This is an important reminder: the forecast cone represents a probability of where the “center” of the storm could make landfall. The chances of the center passing along the right or left edge of the cone are equal with the highest probability exists along the center points.

The cone represents uncertainty in the forecast track of the storm’s center. Again, the cone is only forecasting the probability of where the center of the storm system will track. And as we see with most tropical storms and hurricanes, the hazardous impacts, such as strong wind, storm surge, rainfall flooding, and tornadoes can occur well away from the center and outside of the cone.

This case of Isaias also highlights the growing role of AI-based ensemble guidance, including Google DeepMind’s (GDMI) tropical cyclone model. NHC began evaluating its live forecasts alongside traditional models in 2025. Early evaluations showed promising skill, and additional storms across the Atlantic and Pacific provided more samples/opportunities to assess its strengths and limitations.

The official forecast, however, remains the work of NHC’s #hurricane forecasters who weigh observations and multiple sources of guidance. The NHC stated how it used the GDMI output heavily in its forecast for Isaias which explains why the official track forecast leaned to the right, or east, of many of the traditional, physics-based numerical weather prediction models.

Science and innovation continue to lead the way.

Track forecast errors for Hurricane Isaias (lower is better). Incredible performance by AI models!

Interestingly, AIFS outperformed AIFS-Ens-Mean, and in a rare occurrence, GFS beat ECMWF!

Brady has his own severe storm, tornado centric AI "model" for lack of a better word. It essentially predicts the areas most likely to produce a tornado during a severe weather setup. It has shown promise over the past couple of years. It is called StormNet.

It’s essentially just a super powered search engine at this point. So, crap in crap out.

For example, instead of asking which paint chips taste best

You should type

Which paint chips would taste the best if you had to rank them? Rank common paint colors from best-tasting to worst-tasting and describe the flavor of each one in detail.

I heard that the Google Deepmind was the most accurate for predicting hurricanes even before the recent storm. Our ability to predict the weather will only be limited by our ability to provide data inputs in the future.
