Walked into 6th Grade English...heard some drama-queen chick crying saying that there was a plane crash...Class was at a standstill...they held up the busses we were let out to go home at 930ish.
Super happy to get out of English for the day...didn't feel so happy when I got home. I sat in front of the TV the rest of the day.
My mom was freaking out cause she didn't realize it was in New York and my Godfather worked at WTC in NOLA.

7th grade English class. The teacher walked out through a door that connected to the admin office that she never used. A few minutes later she walked in standing at the door and said “The World Trade Center in New York has been attacked...”
Everyone just froze. We didn’t quite comprehend the scope of what we were just told. The rest of the school day was oddly quiet though. When I got home though and looked at the tv for the first time I got the idea. I just sat on the coffee table, eyes never blinking. Still remember seeing people choosing the quick way out and leaping for it.
I was just taking it all in and I guess the rest of my family could see it because my mom said to one of my older sister “it’s his first time seeing it, they didn’t have the TVs on at school.”
I despise how quickly this country has forgotten what that day felt like and how close we were in the days and months and few years after. Black and white didn’t matter. Republican or Democrat. What part of the country you were from. We’ve gone from flags sold out across the country to it being a symbol of racism.

My barracks room at Fort Bragg. My first line supervisor called to tell me to turn on a TV and stay where I'm at.

I was in PE in 9th grade. I had no idea what was going on until my mom came to pick me up out of school.

I was complaining to another Army officer how depressingly boring serving in peacetime was.

Sitting in my office watching it all unfold with our accountant. A shift supervisor on break, very hard worker but not to bright, walked in and asked what was going on and about that time they showed a replay of the 2nd plane hitting.
As we were trying to explain it to him he said “ So one dumbass flew into a building then another one followed him? That second pilot must be one dumb motherfricker!” and with that he went back to work eating his peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwich oblivious to what had happened.

18 years old. At my job at a hardware store. The old man that was the stock clerk walked in smoking a cigar telling us he heard that a plan hit one of the towers. Like everyone else we thought a small plane and it was an accident. We then listened to Walton And Johnson on the radio actually get serious. #neverforget.

Luckily, I was at work in our office in Mobile. I worked for a hospital software company and we had people all over the US. One of my best friends had to drive home from Catalina Island.

Working as a part time teller at a bank in St. Amant. We had a secret service agent sitting in our parking lot by 9am and were closed by 10:30. It was 2001 so twitter and smart phones didn’t exist. I remember the agent walking in and telling us to go home. Seemed silly for St. Amant, La. but it was one of those holy shite moments in life.

In a conference room in western NY. My wife called my (Nokia) cell and told me that planes had hit the WTC. I walked down to the newsroom and watched in silence with a bunch of reporters as the towers collapsed.

6th Grade English. Teachers all cried. The kids (us) were old enough to know it was bad, but not understand the why and impact it would have. Dismissed around 11 a.m. Dad was home at lunch.

In the Tactical Operations Center for Task Force Med Eagle (SFOR 9) at Eagle Base, Bosnia-Herzegovina. I was serving as the Task Force S3. After hearing news moments before about an incident in New York City we gathered around the TV and watched in horror as United Airlines Flight 175 flew into the South Tower. It was 15:03 GMT in the afternoon. We were waiting for the unit that was going to replace us to land at the airfield that day.
Never forget.
Never forget.

I just got back to my apartment from work (11 hour time difference to New York) in Almaty, Kazakhstan, turned on the TV to Fox news before eating supper and after about 30 minutes they broke into the show to report a “small plane” had just flown into the World Trade Center.
After a while they reported a second plane hit the other tower. Terrorism was suspected.
About 30 minutes later the U.S. embassy called advising all Americans to not go to work the next day and not leave their apartment/hotel (Kazakhstan is a predominately Muslim country) until further notice.

....driving to work. The radio in my car was turned off. When I got to work everyone was huddled around a portable television someone had brought in. I seemed all so surreal, like some Hollywood high-rise disaster movie. Only it was real and ongoing. What turned my stomach? Those poor victims jumping off the tower to escape being burned alive.
Curse the demons who did this. Curse them back to hell and curse those who try defend what these demons did.

Found out about the first plane right before morning PT. Found out about the second plane walking back from PT and saw the towers coming down during breakfast at the chow hall. We were sent home for the morning with instructions to be near a phone. Called in that afternoon and it seems like we worked three straight days and nights getting our equipment packed and ready to ship.
