I feel like if you were alive and aware during 9/11 you remember exactly where and what you were doing at the time.

I can just remember my 3rd grade teachers huddling outside the classroom for what seemed like a suspicious amount of time, then dismissing us around 11am or so to our waiting parents without an explanation. Kind of shitty of them to leave us to find out from my parents and/or rumors from other kids.

I then remember obliviously getting in the car and one of the kids I was carpooling with telling me what happened. Then came back to my house with my mom in tears.

Even 9 year old me was angry that day.

7th grade religion class. Social Studies teacher came into our classroom and said a second plane hit the towers and immediately my religion teacher turned the tv on and stunned the entire classroom.

First period biology. I was shocked and completely glued to the news.

I was convinced I was about to get drafted for a war in the Middle East. I correctly assumed it was Islamic terrorism.

15. Taking a test 1st block when it began. Found out during break from this idiot guy in my graduating class came up to us "man they're fricking bombing everything"

It was a lot of confusion. It was just the last thing anyone was ever expecting. I didn't know if our country was being completely destroyed or we were about to have war in the streets or what

Woke up for work, woke up to Howard stern on the radio back then. They mentioned a plane had hit the WTC but they had no other info and I imagined it was a Cessna prop plane. Got to work an hour later and turned in the radio and heard it was a passenger jet.

I was in an engineering class at LSU. No idea the magnitude until I went back to the house for lunch.

At work.

When the first tower collapsed, I told everyone that it was probable that the second would do the same thing.

When it did, they all looked at me like I was a demigod (because I could see into the future?).

Yes, they were not particularly bright folk.

A bad day.

Biology class my sophomore year. I remember my teacher walkiing out of the room and said “let me go see what’s going on in the world”. At the time I was wondering what the hell she was talking about. She came back about 15 minutes later and told us what happened.

Freshman year in high school.

Teachers were whispering to each other, some saying phrases like “worst attack since Pearl Harbor.” Teacher caved and turned on the TV in the room.

Early on there were a few who took the free time to gossip about banalities like what they were going to wear at an upcoming dance but after period after period continued either looking at a TV or huddled around a radio a stunned silence settled on the group, followed by a nonspecific edginess that persisted for a least a week.

Intellectually knowing it was absurd, but feeling that no where was safe, that we too could be attacked at any moment.

Sitting on the couch with my dad watching it live. I was 23 and the job interview that I had that morning called and rescheduled due to the events.

Oddly enough I had just moved back from NYC a few months earlier.

I was in a dingy apartment at ULL going back to school to get certified to be a teacher/coach.

Later, I got busted by the NIPD on drug charges right before I was supposed to student-teach at NISH

Logged into AOL.com, saw a story about a plane crashing into the trade center but at the time it was made out like it was a small plane and not a big deal.

Got in my car and drove to my job at shirtworks in Auburn where I parked and walked to class. By the time I got there the shite had hit the fan and I never made it to class. I sat with my boss and watched it all unfold.

I still remember freaking out because the gas stations in Auburn all jacked up gas prices all the way to $1.75.

Same. Spent the night at my parents the night before, overslept and woke up to my mom screaming watching the news.

Stayed there for like 3 days just glued to the tv in that fearsome haze everyone was in

1st period... high school chemistry class... I was a junior

principal came over the intercom system and announced it

I didn't have a class 2nd period... and since I was in JROTC I went up by their class and followed along

1 of the 2nd period JROTC classes actually had a brother sitting in on the class so they couldn't watch so I ended up relaying info from 1 classroom to the other...

part of the info I relayed was the WTC towers collapsing... guess that was my 1st foray into the "news business"
