I was on my way to work when I heard on the radio that a plane flew into the World Trade Center. Something about the way it was reported made me think it was a small aircraft. I had no idea it was a passenger liner.

When I got to work, it became apparent after about an hour that it was a much more serious event. Our boss, though, was a total tool. He was worried about a major national emergency affecting the day’s productivity. He kept ordering people back to work when we tried to get info. a-hole.

At work.
My co worker came in who had heard it on the radio.
The internet connection was so slow you could hardly see anything about it.
Turned on TV in office and watched most of the morning.
Surprised they didn't send everyone home.

At work. I was walking back to the MICU from the blood gas lab and a friend of mine grabs me to watch the TV in the in-patient dialysis unit. I saw the second plane hit live... I'll never forget...

I was drinking coffee and watching Good Morning America about to go to music appreciation class at LSU. I actually watched the 2nd plane hit live on tv. They were going on about it possibly being a small single engine plane when it happened.

I had to go to class as the teacher was a bitch about skipping. We were all kind of talking about it before class, and she came in and slammed the door. She had tears in her eyes and said, "I probably shouldn't be doing this but right now I don't care. Let's have a moment of silence to pray for what's going on in New York right now. Lots of people are going to die."

It got "real" to me at that point. I raced home and watched what was going on thinking "this is it (WWIII)".

Just walked into the office and everybody was crammed into the break room watching the news on the wall mounted tv. I didn’t listen to the radio that morning, was playing music CD’s on my way to work, so I had no idea what was going on.

Taking a world history exam.
Met my GF in the quad aftewards and it was a complete ghost town, was really eerie. We asked the one person we saw walking by what was going on and they replied that the US was under attack from Iran. Spent the rest of the day glued to the TV.

I was in the 8th grade and originally had a jr high football game that afternoon that was obviously canceled. Somehow the faculty decided to keep all of it under wraps to the students so no one really knew what happened until we made it home after school. I remember my us history teacher visibly upset and crying at some point but she wouldn't go into the details of what had happened.

Looking back, I think my grade was the only class to never go to DC for the US history school trip that most kids go on in the 8th grade, it was shitty

I had an exam in the old, decrepit Parker Hall, and decided to walk to the student union to lick my wounds and eat some breakfast. I walked in and the entire cafeteria was silent with everybody glued to the televisions.

I'd just gotten back from a trip to NY to check out some museums, have a few dinners with friends and go out to some clubs. It was a great time in New York. Time Square was really cleaned up. There were lots of clubs happening and the economy was good. I'd say the years between 1998 to 2001 were some of New York's best years.

Lizzie Grubman, a Public Relations manager in the music business had just plowed through a group waiting at the door to get into Conscience Point, a night club in the Hampton's and called em white trash while she was barreling through the crowd. She was serving jail time in Manhattan and it was a hot topic. I'd just got back to my office here in BR and my coworkers told me a plane hit the World Trade Center. I put on the news and watched the second plane hit the south tower. Those MF'ers

was at work when we heard about the first one.

we really didn’t take it seriously at all. we’re thinking like a Cessna or something. we even made tasteless jokes about it.

the 2nd plane hit and it wasn’t funny anymore.

my wife and i had recently found out we were pregnant with our first child.
and suddenly the world i was bringing him into was never going to be the same.

Was in my 2nd year of law school driving on Acadian to class. Heard the news on the radio and pulled over into the circle k. Me and the attendant sat and listened to the radio for about 30 minutes before I turned around and drove back to the house to watch the news non-stop for the next 24 hours

I was at NORAD HQ on Peterson AFB (I was in the ARMY).

The RED phone rang after the 1st tower was hit and we watched CNN as Flight 175 hit the 2nd tower.

At that point we knew we were under attack.

was walking in late to high school. First plane had already hit. had no idea then i see it as I'm walking by the library on the tv. I didn't even go to class just walked into the library and watched for a while till 2nd period. Called my dad cause he was federal employee just to see what his situation was. Then we tried to do school again, tv's left on and boom number 2 hit. Everyone was allowed to leave if they had a ride. I kind of began worrying about a draft. I knew i wasn't eligible because of a health condition (wanted to fly and had spoken with recruiters) but i was worried about my friends. We were all turning 18 and seniors. It was very sobering. The Friday night football game was pretty emotional for everyone as the band played the national anthem. The Mississippi State football game was an emotional roller coaster. The greatest part was after the anthem there was few F you/got to hell Bin Laden's that was heard on national television. That was great. I still get a little emotional thinking about it. I would still like to get a job with Cantor Fitzgerald one day. They lost 70% of their employees that day.

I was still pretty pissed i couldn't join the military (epilepsy) and drop some bombs on them mofos. A-10s were my thing at that time. Had a video game where you flew one.

In 2nd grade. I remember not really understanding what happened. I remember some friends were joking that some idiots burned their food in the microwave now they got th building on fire. Then they showed the replay of the planes hitting. My first thought was how terrible of a pilot do you have to be to hit a building. Even still, the situation was funny to us 7 year olds.

By the time we watched the building collapse livr. There were no more laughing, jokes, or even talking. Nothing but quietness. We understood that thousands died in an instant. Im surprised to hear so many schools let everyone go home. We sat there from 9-3 glued to the tvs.

When I learned that it was a terrorist attack. I just knew planes were about to start dropping bombs out of the sky. It's like i was just waiting to hear the sound of bombs and guns going off in my neighborhood at any second. That continued for weeks.

I was in France on vacation with my wife (before kids).

We had spent the day riding bikes around a small town in the Loire Valley. Later in a restaurant, Frenchies around us asked if we were Americans. We said yes and they grudgingly told us we should go watch the news. The wait staff put CNN international on in the bar. They were sad for us.

The next day we spent at Normandy (part of our original agenda). Very, very sad day, looking out over all those crosses thinking about the innocents who just perished in our homeland.

About the only good thing that happened was our regularly scheduled flight out of Paris left on schedule that next Monday morning, one of the first flights allowed back to the US. Anecdotally, the lady sitting next to us on the flight had paid $5,000 cash to the previous ticketholder so she could get home.
