Where to see the stars around BR

Where can you go and actually see the sky like with the milky way and andromeda galaxy with the naked eye. I know the clarity is dependent on weather.
Does anyone have a spot they drive to not to far away thats dark and quiet and just looks at the stars? maybe with some binoculars but for the most part just the naked eye.

You live in Louisiana, there are dark and quiet spots every 10 Miles.

isn't there a place on Highland Road (up by CCLA) just for this purpose?

Take a look at google maps and find a place that is at least 5-10 miles from any development. I mean any lighted roadways or small towns. Out in the areas surrounded by cane fields or out in the rice field areas are good locations.

I haven't really found many places around here that will allow you to see galaxies with the naked eye. I've had some pretty good luck with binoculars in a few places like the hoo shoo too area that have mostly residential housing with very few big light sources such as parking lots.

Use the dark sky map. There's surprisingly few actual DARK spots in the state.

ETA: also makes a big difference to plan your watch party when the moon isn't up.

There's a site near Norwood, Louisiana where the astronomy clubs go for their stargazes.

Chico St. park. Especially during colder, less hazy weather.
