It's nice for Louisiana.

First, why?
Second, the answer is any state not named Louisiana.

I travel the whole state. There are plenty of cool places. I want to retire in the country...rolling hills and no people. North of I-12 close to the Mississippi border from new roads to bogalusa has plenty of that. You ain’t going to town often and without a good plan, but I’m cool with that. My wife would NEVER go for that life though.
If you want a cool walkable downtown, Covington is about the only place I’d consider. New roads on the water is pretty cool, no amenities of town there though. Thibodaux is nice enough, nice downtown and nice houses along the bayou. You gonna pack up with a hurricane though.
Hwy 21 between Covington and Bush is one of the prettiest drives in the state.
I’ll retire in Ruston though. Country, rolling hills 5 minutes from town, movie theater, plenty of good restaurants, small town feel, the culcha is there, but well divided by the interstate and Trenton street. Nice little airport I can fly in and out of with very little trouble, good schools (if you need that) and relatively decent property prices as long as you don’t want to live with the Davison’s on the golf course.
