St Francisville is cool, but not retirement material location. And it's poorer than you might imagine. It's a place to visit, not necessarily retire to. The hospital there is more of a clinic. So good luck with emergency medical care.

I know you said NOT Mandeville or Covington, but that's probably really the best choices. Yeah, you'll likely have to evacuate if/when another hurricane comes along (not in Covington probably), but just how often would that actually happen? And you're close to good/decent healthcare (it's not the Houston medical corridor for sure) and social activities of which there are lots and decent food/restaurants. There's not many safer areas in the entire country, not just Louisiana, than Mandeville. And if you travel, you have three airports from which to choose.

The OP lives in New Orleans. Remeber Katrina? What’s your point? BR flooded, Laffy flooded, it’s Louisiana. It happens.

Couldn’t have said it better. There’s only two places that are worth considering imo. That’s north shore and the Lafayette area.

Lake Charles isn’t bad either if you’ve got money to live near the Lake

Nola East - cheap housing
Gardere - cheap housing/close to LSU
Ferriday - country living
Ellic - in the middle of it all
north Lake Charles - close to the lake
Richwood - country living close to Monroe
Grambling - country living without Ruston traffic

My concern is that there isn’t much out there.
I’d like to be in a place with a walkable downtown with places to socialize at. My list is a place with. An airport nearby, a major college with a hospital, and a centralized downtown.

Huge improvements, one real grocery store and a new Chimes-like restaurant.

I'm sure people are impressed when you mention that you live in Denham Springs.

Pelican Point in Ascension Parish. It’s a country club with a lot of retired people living in there and it’s a gated community with a golf club. 30 minutes from Baton Rouge

It's not what you're thinking it is. If you want to live on a golf course just to say you live there then that's fine. It's not the same CC as it was 5 years ago. Sorry to let you down.

What about Lafayette area. There are areas south east of St Francisville but very rural

How about old town Covington? That’s a pretty cool little area with walkable stores, church, bars, and restaurants.
