It’s all marketing and understanding how the human brain works. These Jordans I’m guessing are around $150-200? But if you take the logo off the function of the shoe is the same. And the price would be cheaper. But you put the logo on and add a premium of 200-300%, people line up for them, Nike and Jordan get their cut. The honest truth is that people can’t think for themselves. That what what effective marketing does is tell people what they need. And humans are socially creatures and our behavior feed off one another’s causing a inflated need of a supply.

I guess it doesn’t matter that Nike uses slave labor Funny how slavery is only bad when only certain demographics are involved yet those same people don’t care about modern day slavery. The USA outlawed it over 150 years ago so it shouldn’t even be associated with America We can however associate slavery to Nike. What say you NBA NFL Kap ?

Statistically speaking, white people have a much higher savings rate even when accounting for income. Keep playing your victim card though.

Dumb people are highly susceptible to marketing schemes. Nike has been capitalizing for decades.

Diamonds are another example.

I understand teenagers being into this sort of thing, but I don't understand adults buying these shoes.

Yep

It's the cadillac effect. The higher price makes them more desirable.

These shoes probably require $20 worth of material and labor to make them.

Depends on the price.
I would raise my son with better values than to spend $300 on faddish footwear.

While 40 year old me completely agrees with this, I then have to remember that 16 year old me bought an amplifier for my car BEFORE I saved enough to buy the car.

Hey, it was a great deal. That’s what 16 year old me thought at the time.

Serious fricking question because this dumb shite pisses me off.

If a 16 year old kid, who works at McDonalds and decides to spend his hard earned money on some Jordans, because he is black he didnt earn it? Is that what you are saying? You have no idea what anybody in this damn line does for a living but you want to sit behind a laptop and spew this bullshite.

Typical reaction. Where did I say anything about them being black kids? Tons of white kids buy Jordans, too. Guess what, I’d bet the vast majority of them didn’t earn the money to buy them either. If you can’t understand why people who work for their income get frustrated when they see people on government assistance, regardless of race, buying products that they can’t afford themselves, I can’t help you.

Didn’t say that. I said that the vast majority of kids buying Jordans probably didn’t earn the money themselves. Stop trying to twist my words.

If your saying most of these kids buy it with mommy and daddy's credit card then I could see that. Even without that, a part time minimum wage job nets about 500 a month. Not that hard to save up for a new pair of shoes when you don't have to pay rent, groceries, utilities etc.
