Yes HR screeners. Who really don't know how to interview the position. This is technical data engineering positions.

We've started matching profiles with LinkedIn and running fraud analysis on it, but we can't exclude them legally from those results. It's painful.

Just shy of 35 years ago. And seeing how it works now, I’m very glad I won’t be doing it again. The process has gotten so stupid. I blame the “HR culture” that’s taken over. It use to be as a hiring manager, you’d get to run the process and choose who you want. Now everything has to go through HR and their procedures. The one I loathe the most is having to put together a “panel” to interview prospective hires. HR goes so far as to give you a list of questions to ask. These women don’t have the foggiest clue about my department, how it functions, and what it has to do. The process takes too long. And most of it is just stupid.

resumes I’m getting from LinkedIn

This might be the source of your problem. I have a business LinkedIn page, but I loathe that platform for exactly the reasons you listed. 90% of the pages on there come off as fake or AI to me. Depending on your industry, there's gotta be other platforms or sites you can use to find some quality candidates.

I usually look for somebody one of my guys knows.
We made a home run hire for COO about 10 years ago, he has since brought over the best from his previous company. This is the way.

Might have to pay a little more, but you know what you’re getting, culture and personalities align, and you remove the majority of the headaches of dealing with a bad hire until you finally terminate that person. You’re then still back at square one and months to years have passed with subpar output.

You think linkin is bad try indeed.

I've been hiring for a master's level behavioral health provider, built in requirements and had a fork lift operator with a GED apply.

You need all that to backfill for your open French fry machine operator?

Yep, there’s Directors all over the corporate world who don’t direct anyone. Just a title to fill their overinflated ego.

Then when we would ask technical questions, they would repeat the question back to us, wait a second then start answering like they were being fed the answer in their ear.

At my previous job we brought candidates in to the office and gave them a report to summarize and make a decision based on the report. But I let them do it on a laptop connected to the Internet in a room by themselves. I hired one girl and quickly realized she had emailed it to someone to do for her. She couldn't write for shite and didn't know the basic science to make a good decision.

My wife has been in human resources ( going back to when they were called Personnel) and human resource management for over 35 years. She could write a NY Times best seller from the shite she's seen and experienced.

The past few years the past 2 generation workers aren't worth a shite. They can bring in 10 new ones....only 6 show up for orientation....after 6 months you consider yourself damn lucky if 3 of the 6 that started out as 10 is still working.

we have a vp of dei. I am not joking.
My job title is 100% not what I do, have never done, and have zero idea what I am going to do about it on a resume when I leave this company. My company made up a job description that does not match the universally accepted meaning of my title

How did we get here?!?!

Screening systems that only allowed resumes to pass through if they contained certain phrases.

Combined with the fact that checking or giving references causes many to believe they are opening themselves up to potential litigation.

So now we are shocked that more resumes contain those phrases.

I used to look for the resumes that were well-formatted and polished, regardless of the content. That at least showed me the candidate pays attention to detail and puts forth effort

Or they paid someone $250 to write it

All the time. Anybody relying on a resume to make an hire shouldn’t be hiring people to begin with.
