When was the last time you hired for an open role? Everything is BS.

I’m hiring for a pretty entry level role and the resumes I’m getting from LinkedIn are a joke. People barely out of H.S. Or with no college degree (or still in College) listing VP and Director roles on their resume. The inflated or outright lies of supposed experience in “managing” or “directing” this or that.
Everything is fake bullshite these days.
Kids H.S. And college GPA’s are BS.
Peoples resumes are BS. Some of these idiots still have AI notes left in their resume or questions others asked when reviewing them.
Peoples profile pictures are BS.
It’s all bullshite. Everything is fake. How did we get here?!?!

Hiring sucks.
I usually look for somebody one of my guys knows.
It’s still crap but at least I’m aware of a lot of things before we start the shitshow

It’s easier to train a high school graduate with above average intelligence than it is to reprogram a raging progressive college graduate with a useless degree.

Most job postings are typically required to be posted, but they almost always hire from within.

To some degree, our society has always operated on "fake it 'til you make it."
But yes, the self-aggrandizement and inflated credentials are getting out of hand.
Nowadays, a 4.2 GPA basically equates to your average joe.
When I was hiring, I used to look for the resumes that were well-formatted and polished, regardless of the content. That at least showed me the candidate pays attention to detail and puts forth effort (i.e. not entitled).
However, I'd imagine AI has rendered my filter meaningless nowadays...

We recently hired a guy based on interview with camera on. A different person showed up to work. Not sure what the plan was....

I'm in Software Dev and we had a string of very similar resumes with very similar traits when you would interview them. All middle eastern Experts in a huge list of items that it's unreasonable to be an expert in. The women would always have their hair covering an ear, and the men would be turned a direction where you can't see one ear. The setting of them on camera was always at a desk in a room with plain walls and a white door in the background. We require 3 days in office and always made that a point in our opening comments for the interview. They all agree. Then when we would ask technical questions, they would repeat the question back to us, wait a second then start answering like they were being fed the answer in their ear. We made the job offer to a few of them and then all of a sudden coming into the office was not an option. We started requiring in-office interviews after a small few of those.

Over "educated", unintelligent women started managing the hiring processes across the country. That's how we got here.

The worst time to be alive the last hundred years by a large margin and don’t give me shite about the manufactured great depression that didn’t affect the average American.
Both grandparents lived through that and they felt nothing. They were poor before and still poor after.

That's actually pretty funny.
We started doing on the floor tests for our blue-collar position. You say you're a welder, cool walk into the booth and show me what your hourly rate should be. Your application says you can program a machine; here is the drawing with all of the dimensions and the program; put it in the machine and run 3 parts.

Well, there is an easy fix for that. Do it like we did it 30 years ago.
Submit resume and cover letter on paper. Interview in person. Call references, look at college transcript before job offer.
ETA: Everything you mention seems to be caused by the electronic nature of the application process.

Been hiring for a while. Every resume is AI generated to match the job posting. Every remote interview the person is using AI to answer questions.
I've ended more interviews within the first 5 minutes than I care to count.
