I have not been on a payroll since 2003. My income is down roughly %40 year to year due to market forces related to government policy. I expect the next 2/3 quarters to continue sucking. Beyond that and I’m getting roommates and going to a ramen and tap water diet.

Every time I close a significant transaction. Bonus plus raise is an awesome way to motivate.

this is about to happen at our house even with raises because of grocery increases. Our household has gotten 10% over the last year but things cost way more too so it is a wash.

Pretty content with the money I'm making currently, though.

This thought has never crossed my mind

But I switch jobs every 3-5 years to make sure I stay at the top of the market

Last year I received a 21% raise...after not having a raise of any kind for 7 years.

Getting another 11% any day now...just waiting for it to be entered into the system.

~2021 I got a nice 12% out of the blue. The next year I saw layoffs on the horizon and I took a job elsewhere for another 20% on top of that. Looking at a promotion later this month, not sure what it’ll bring, but I’m expecting at least ~8%. Not bad for a ~3 year period.

Just to possibly add some context to this discussion -

My father tells me the story of working for Exxon after graduating from LSU in the late 60s - mid 70s.

Says that one of his co-workers was telling the rest of them he’d gotten a 10% raise….and they all hung their heads,
because it meant the company was
trying to run the guy off.

Must be nice. Raises in healthcare unless you are a doctor are slim to none
