Doesn't appear that maybe two or three in this thread have kids (at least one that they claim)

All kids now have iPads unless their parents are PAF.

No, your kid shouldn't share his iPad with a stranger.

Don't call me sensitive Sally, you cynical Cindy. I'm just sensitive about our trashy level. I RA'd by the way, calling people trashy isn't funny.

Yep.

It's all about the individual kid, though. Some kids can handle it, and others can't. My daughter takes care of her things and has a healthy variety of interests.

Politely tell the poor kid that he needs to go ask his parents for his own iPad.

Sounds like a perfect time to teach your kid the difference between Democrats and Republicans.

Never lend something to someone who can not afford to pay for it if they accidentally destroy it. If you want to know if they can afford it, ask for a cash deposit that will cover it.

Give your kid the easy out. Tell him to tell the little gremlins that his dad does not allow him to share the Ipad.

I'd just watch and see what he does.

I don't think he should share it, but I'd be curious to see how he handled it, and then I'd ask him about it and what his thought process was. Then I'd tell him he can make his own decision, but he doesn't always have to share, especially with a stranger. And that he should be careful because some people don't always want to just "share" and he might end up losing his toy/iPad/whatever.

I wouldn't give my kid a fricking iPad to begin with.

To all the folks saying this: Have y'all been to a restaurant in the past 5 years? Every kid has an iPad. It keeps them quiet like nothing I've seen before. It costs $299 to keep a kid quiet at dinner for like 4 years. How is that not a bargain?

Great advice for children and adults alike!

My son knows not to share electronics with other kids. When other kids come around the electronics are put away.

My kid was telling him to get his own iPad. He did let him have a turn here and there but he kept being obnoxious

My kid has an iPad but It's never been used as a tool to "keep her quiet". Kids need to learn how to act appropriately in public, and shoving their noses in an iPad or phone is not the way to do it. Or they'll grow into every other annoying adult that has their nose in their phone.

We got our kids those fire tablets for $35 a piece. I like the idea of them learning the tech side of things, but I know my kids and paying $200+ x3 every 6 months is just stupid

Who gives a kid an iPad.

I bought one for my daughter for her second birthday and now she reads at a 4th grade reading level while the rest of her class reads at a 1st-2nd (she is in 1st grade).

Granted, I work with my daughter all the time, but her vocabulary was very impressive as a 3yr old, and I attribute that partly to the educational games on the iPad.

She only plays with it on the weekends now, and mostly to read or watch Netflix, but as a toddler she was constantly playing educational games. It's a tool if used correctly.

I've got a two year old and 2 iPads on the family. My son will not get an iPad for a while.

How about parents pay attention to their children instead of just shutting them up by giving them an iPad?

I've got nephews that have to watch their iPad when they go down 5 minutes down the street to the store. Are you kidding me??

i've got a newer car with a DVD player in the back. Never even turned it on. I would rather engage my son in conversation then turn on some show to keep him quiet.

Kids shouldn't have to share anything with random kids. The idea that they should must have originated with jealous poors.

All this. I take my kids out to eat about twice a week, and almost every time I have an older person come up and say how well behaved they are. They are 3 & 4 and we've used an electronic device at a restaurant maybe 5 times in their lives. Kids have to be trained in good behavior; manners aren't innate.

We only had to use it once on each of ours.

I guess ours are faster learners.
