To be honest don’t we get lots of lightning during those summer downpours we have? Or is it astronomically more?
A normal afternoon storm, these numbers are 20-50. I've never seen 2000 strikes clumped together like this.
Heading to Orlando as well, need 4.

Same people who pronounce “house” as “hoose”
Are those the same folks that can’t say roof?
One and the same. See also: broom (same vowel sound as crumb for some crazy reason). Also, the body of water south of Louisiana is the Golf of Mexico.
25 years ago. Nice neighborhood, older part of town. Divorced mom, high school girl that I was friends with. I am picking her up to drive to school, ask to use the bathroom.
The bathroom sink (only bathroom in the house) is FULL of cosmetics. Like stacked to the brim, all old and dusty. Countertop is covered as well. If the faucet hadn't been there, I would've assumed there was no sink.
They offered me the kitchen sink to wash my hands, the kitchen wasn't much better in empty counter space. Dead bugs everywhere.
This was before hand sanitizer was a normal thing, I had to wait till school to wash my hands again.

The article was written by this fine lady, she was kind enough to include her bio at the bottom
Donna sounds like a grandmotherly Karen who got her high school diploma in the 40s when ladies were expected to only write well enough to make a shopping list.
Hey guys, 3.5 years ago I rode a horse for about the 3rd time in my life, now I'm an expert!

I truly don’t understand why people keep posting as if they are literally stuck indoors.
Because for most Americans, leisure time is primarily taken up with 4 things:
- Shopping
- Eating out at restaurants
- Sports
- Passive entertainment like movies or concerts
Take all that away and make them cook? Spend time with their family? Read a book? Play a board game?
Forget the looters, they might turn the guns on themselves after awhile!

I’m going with preparedness, like average non tinfoil hat wearing people stockpiling stuff like hand sanitizer, masks, gloves, etc just in case .
Agreed, I'd add stockpiling food too. I was raised in large part by my grandmother, born in 1913. This lady rinsed off tin foil, kept margarine containers, spent days cleaning ink marks off a $15 shirt. Her walk-in pantry was always stocked for the apocalypse.
My husband always thought I was crazy for having so much food on hand, but aside from additional meat and frozen food, I hardly had to buy anything. We've got enough to make it till May if we have to.
re: How are elementary schools going online?
Posted by its1999 on 3/17/20 at 9:19 am to BenDover78
We were discussing last night the Swiss cheese effect of future knowledge this generation will likely have.
For example, I had an absolute shite elementary school teacher who had a serious beef with my dad from years before, and she wasn't called on it by my mom til halfway through the school year. The first half of the year was when they covered subtracting large digit numbers.
To this day, I can generally handle most algebra, understand geometry, statistics, etc-- but ask me to subtract one 3 digit number from another, where you have to borrow and carry? I'm probably going to have to do the "add my answer to the bottom number" trick to be sure it's right.
Heaven help all the parents of 1st-2nd graders whose kids haven't learned to read yet.
That old teacher? That dumb bish was clearly absent when they discussed engines and mechanics. I remember she told us that trains stayed on tracks because there were magnets on the wheels pulling the cars along. Even 7 year old me was like, this woman's a dumbass.

See a doctor ASAP. Similar thing happened to my dad, he was in a coma 36 hours later due to brain swelling.
Go now.

air transmitted virus
The virus is not airborne, at least most reliable sources don't have evidence that it is.
But it survives for lengthy periods of time on cardboard, glass, wood, metal, paper.
Someone with it (or just a carrier of it) coughs into their hand, or scratches their nose, then touches a door handle or a self checkout or grocery cart handle or stair rail. Then 20 people touch that same surface over the next 2 hours. It's going to transmit to some of those people if they don't immediately wash their hands well, and instead touch their eyes, nose, or mouth.

Well, I live here all the time, not just half the year. So I'm gonna see your half year and raise you another half.
Regardless, numbers back it up, you're welcome to Google it. Rates of smoking are much higher here than the US, leading to higher changes of respiratory illnesses. Populations are older; and obesity levels in Germany and especially Italy are catching up to the US.

You be back next year becaUse you play in a shite conference and will cake walk up to a other loss to a real battle tested team.
To be fair, you could say the same of tOSU, OU, the PAC 12, and anytime from the SEC East at varying points throughout the last 10 years.
But yeah, the ACC is exceptionally crap right now, and I say that as a spouse of an ACC team fan who owns more than 6 shirts from said team.
Yeah, this year was truly a perfect storm for LSU.
-QB with a desire to absorb every bit of info to get better AND a dad who was a former coach (i.e., not constrained by coach/player contact rules)
-WR with a former successful QB as a brother
-WR with NFL Hall of Famer and current sports analyst dad
Honestly, best case scenario is for Burrow's dad to offer room and board for Brennan. Can we set up a gofundme for that, actually?

People always clap on international flights
This. I've flown between European countries probably about 50-60 times, can't recall a flight they didn't clap at the end. Only had it happen a couple of times in the states, usually in big vacation hubs like Vegas.
re: New Orleans Parent gets on school bus and attack’s 9yr old that hit her kindergartener
Posted by its1999 on 2/15/19 at 8:29 am to BowDownToLSU
My kindergartener rode the bus for a couple of months at the start of this school year before we had to change schools. She rode up front with other little kids her age. She's a very small, sweet little girl.
She came home one day complaining about another kindergarten little girl that supposedly pointed and laughed at her one day. I told her to ignore it and talk to her own friends, maybe this girl was jealous or nervous.
But I caught myself giving some serious stink eye to that midget though the bus window a few times.
TLDR: if a 9 year old hit my kid in the face, I'd probably do the same. It'd be a fair fight tho, I'm about the height and weight of some 9 year olds.

Everyone's wrong. We were patrolling the no fly zone over the northern and southern borders of Iraq during Operation Northern Watch and Operation Southern Watch beginning after the Gulf War. We engaged in air skirmishes with Iraqi fighters, and defended our aircraft from surface to air missiles throughout this.
This war has been going on since 1990, nearly 30 years now.
