This is the exception- I had several friends attend the local community college and lived with their parents for that. I don't, and nobody did back in the day, look down on that.

Made that decision myself at age 17 after graduating from high school. Moved out of state to Jackson, MS. and got a job at a marina that included salary, room and board and kept that for about 18 months before getting another better paying job and moved into an apartment at age 18.

Eventually moved back to N.O. at age 20 and have been here since. Currently age 72.

My buddy had a basement in his parents house and was in a band (drums) he had a hell of a spot.
He made arena registration…

I was going to school and working but lived in a house with 4 of my buddies for a year.

That was not a good idea. They were absolute party animals and I didnt care for the circus around me 247.

They didn't have to. I left at 18 to go to college and never moved back home.

Never, because I had good parents. They weren't POS enough to give me the boot on my 18th birthday and I wasn't a POS who deserved getting kicked out. Only lived at home during school breaks after 18 and moved out fully at 22.

Yeah I never understood the whole kicking out at 18 no matter what idea.

I lived with my parents throughout college. Even stuck around another few months til I found a real job. That was a carefree super fun time in my life.

Saved a lot of money. I’ll always be appreciative of them for that.

They never really set a date or said anything about it. My siblings and I merely knew that we had a place to stay and, when we finished college, we moved on to be married or moved out to start an untethered life. Basically our generation had an unspoken belief that we completed HS or college and we were expected to move on.

When I graduated from college in 86, I came home, lived with my parents for about 2 months while I house shopped. Bought a house, moved out, never went back.

They didn't have to ask me to leave, it was just expected that as an adult,I would go live my own life.

Our deal was as long as you were in the military or college you had a place, free. If not you better have a job, because the rent was now due. Rented from them for a little when I got out of the Marines, then bought that house when I got married.

Mom never made me leave, but I knew I wanted to be out on my own. I lived at home for 1 year and attended LSUS and saved enough money to buy a car so I could get to LSU.

I lived at home during college because we lived 10 miles from LSU and it was cheaper. My dad wouldn't pay for a wedding till I had a degree so I graduated in 3 1/2 years we got married 10 days after graduation. Married at 21 and started our life!

Left at 17 after graduation… never went back and that was 33 years ago… and they didn’t “inform” me… it was just understood in my house that’s what a man does.

My HS graduation present was luggage. Literally. Not even a joke.
Mrs Füt (no pics) and all of her siblings got luggage for HS Graduation as well.

I was the baby, my folks would have let me stay around forever.

I liked getting drunk and bangin’ whores (which to properly execute well required privacy) so I never thought of staying at home after HS.

The morning I turned 18 my mother walked in my bedroom and said “you’re 18 years old now. Get out!”
I was leaving to go into the Air Force one week later, but she had had enough of my shite.

1 month after graduating HS

I don't know if it made me better certainly made me learn harsh lessons earlier in life and made me focus on work rather than education which at least in part made it difficult for me to attend much less graduate from Such an esteemed and expensive school as Rice

But my work was at a club D J so I got to see a lot more boobs than I would have attending college

I went to a military boarding school in New Mexico when I was 14. They were living in Houma. Never went back home.
