I hear ya. I'm actually ok with how people spend their money. To me it just seems silly to pay so much for any vehicle, not specifically trucks.

i agree. i mean i drive a luxury vehicle but i went budget (Genesis) and lease it as my company car. it's reasonable (after everything it's right at $400/mo) and a lot of bang for my buck.

*ETA: status and appearance does matter for my work often

Yeah I think the first thing these guys who get hired in the mines here do is get a "luxury" F250 and the status competition keeps getting higher. You drive by the lot and its insane. Ill bet those trucks sticker is equal to their annual wages.

yeah with all the plan guys here, it's almost mandatory that they drive a truck (even though their job has nothing to do with a truck). lots of very clean, very luxurious trucks in the parking lots of the plants here. i'll be almost all of them have never left pavement also (because if you're driving a $70k truck, why would you take that kind of risk?)

How long is your lease? I've never leased, but that seems like a good deal. I have a company vehicle with a gas card, so my personal truck typically sits 5 days out of the week.

3 years. i'm about 1.5 into it. it's just easier for me for accounting purposes to lease the vehicle as my company vehicle

I saw a used 2015 Jeep Wrangler out front at a dealership with a price of $42k.

I was looking into a fully loaded Dodge Durango and it was like $48k.

The prices on vehicles are so stupid these days.

Straight from Ford rep's mouth - "when Obama drove up the EPA regulations on paint, Ford prices jumped up $10-13k."

Not sure if legit, but makes sense. EPA went a bit crazy over the last 8 years

I tried pricing a stripped down work truck model 4x4 3/4 ton just cab and chassis and it was still around 50k sticker

I hope they continue to rise. I would love for our public transportation to improve. A high speed rail through the south east would be awesome.

I find most higher end luxury vehicles are leased now a days.

Especially if the residuals are on point.

My dad got a barebones Ford F-150 for 19k. It doesn't have a CD player, but you can plug your phone or USB to the radio.

When people were willing to pay that much for them.

Why get a new truck now? If what you got is still in good shape then ride it to the wheels fall off. I don't understand why people are so quick to get a new vehicle especially if nothing is wrong with their current one.

Or you could just move to Europe, hippy. Keep financing personal vehicles. At least the individual pays for his poor decision. High speed rail and other "mass transit" is paid for with taxes. I don't want to fund that stupidity.

These things correlate. Smart people dont want to spend a ton of cash on something that depreciates that quickly.

I may have to get a "luxury" vehicle soon. Slow is right. In our line of work, perception is a pretty big deal.
