Lafayette sucks. The traffic sucks as do the people.

Dude you’re way out of touch.

LC is so awful these days. It’s Shreveport level bad.

I am well aware of what has happened to Lake Chuck. Most of the population lives outside of the city limits. Many of its trees are gone. The Oak Park subdivision is overrun with hood rats and has been so for about 25 years. The north side of Broad St. has gotten better, at least visually. Third Ave to the Lake is still not bad at all, except for a few houses here and there.

Still the city's finances are in great shape unless the new mayor screws it up with city council collusion.

BR people have some complex towards Lafayette.

Quite the opposite. It's Laffy which has an inferiority complex and always has. Even during the oil boom days of the 70's they always complained about Lake Chuck and BR having good jobs.

I will never forget when USL went 0-10 so decided they were going to jump into the bigtime football. Then they tried to turn USL into UL, but Monroe forced them into ULL, All of my Laffy friends call it OO LA LA and laugh about it. FTR, almost ALL of my relatives live in Laffy Parish.

Also, Oo La La is still part of the same university system as McNeese, Nichols and Southeastern which doesn't make it superior.

Where did you get your info?

US News and World report has Metairie as #1.

Bossier City and Shreveport are both ahead of Baton Rouge (really?).

Laffy had much more charm many years back….not so much now. Traffic blows, shatty infrastructure & a lot of sprawl.

I totally agree with this. I am a LSU and UL alumni and I think while LSU is a national research university...UL is redneck U and therefore the flagship.

UL in 2025 had $225M in research funding.

LSU in 2025 had $360M in research funding, when you remove the medical school.

I guess we are living in a world of alternate facts....

I am doctoral alumni of UL ( which department you can guess....the only one which has a semblance of national recognition ).

UL will always be redneck u. LSU will be national university top tier ( 2 masters engineering and csc ).

Please stop comparing the two.

1. Lafayette has a significantly higher ratio of neighborhoods that are one way in, one way out. That limits detour potential when major arteries are congested. 2. Lafayette has a river running through the middle of it. You can only cross said river at specific points (commonly referred to as “bridges”). That limits detour potential when major arteries are congested.

Lafayette traffic isn’t nearly as bad as people try to make it out to be if you live in Lafayette and are traveling to other places in the city. Now if you live on the outskirts, or in Broussard or Youngsville, then yeah traffic probably sucks for you.

Baton Rouge was on the upswing until Broome. She single-handedly destroyed downtown and undid all of the good things Kip Holden brought about. Mayor Edwards will spend his entire term in office trying to fix the mess that Broome created, then he will be replaced by another black democrat in 2028 who will proceed to frick things up again.

can’t think of a single Cajun restaurant in Lafayette that I would tell a tourist to go to with pride because I thought it was a good representation of the cuisine

Definitely can't do it in Baton Rouge. If it weren't for LSU, Baton Rouge would be equal to West Monroe but with shite tons more traffic.

No one advocates for Baton Rouge on account of its "culture"; people do so every day for Lafayette. So tell me, where would you send a tourist in Lafayette to get cajun food just like your Maw used to make? I've got nothing. Can you think of anything?

correct. Although I don't believe Mayor Coach has any idea of what to do.
