I handle New Orleans and BR for work. If you are talking about Uptown New Orleans I might take NO over BR but ALL of JP and most of NO suck to live in (a couple exceptions). There is no way I would live anywere in Metairie, Kenner or the WB besides maybe Old Metairie and most of NO is garbage. I'll take SBR or the Southdowns/100 oaks/Mid City area over most of the rest of NO. I can visit NO and take advantage of the restaurants on the weekends or when I am working.
Lafayette is cool but I haven't spent as much time there.

New Orleans is a pretty decent city if you are wealthy and can afford to stay away from the ghetto folk

If you look at this in a purely Spenglerian sense, you can see the cycle of history before your eyes:

"They're at 10th St"

"Oh man, I remember when they were just at 5th St. In a few years they'll be at 15th St."

What's the context of "best" and who made this ranking?

Lafayette’s a great big town. Same way BR was pre-Katrina. The way Lafayette is now reminds me of BR in the 90’s. Enjoy it while it lasts. I still love BR and think it gets shite on unfairly, but sometimes definitely wish we could go back to quieter days. Now that the Northshore split off from the Nola metro, BR will be the biggest metro in the state within 10 years or so. Thats if the Southshore continues to bleed residents while LP, AP, and WBR around BR continue to grow. The big city problems will continue I’m sure.

Nah. You live in the middle of nowhere if you’re in laffy. Not easy to get to the city for games, longer for the beach, further from the best part of the state in st tammany

closer to pecan island. Closer to hunt and fish. 45 minutes to LSU games. 1 hour to lake charles and texas. Closer to Toledo Bend. Less crime and better food and better crawfish.

I figured someone was going to say something like this… I don’t live in Zion, and I assume you don’t live on the Northside. I imagine my day to day “demographics” look fairly similar to yours.

If that’s the best you’ve got, I rest my case

Baton Rouge without LSU is Jackson, MS

Towns and universities are quite similar. Both more populous in LA.

Definitely used to be able to go to restraunts with good cajun food. I don't know about now though. Been awhile since I've been to Lafayette.

Lafayette is probably the best place to raise a family in South Louisiana. Minimal hoodrat shite and plenty to do within reason.

I don't know much about Lafayette, only been there for a couple hours a couple times in my life, but I can't think of any important categories where BR beats definitely beats it, other than entertainment (LSU).
