Definitely can't do it in Baton Rouge. If it weren't for LSU, Baton Rouge would be equal to West Monroe but with shite tons more traffic.
These arguments are hilarious
I remember an Ole Miss fan saying “if not for like 5 runs Fournette would’ve had like 50 yards rushing”

Im a Lafayette native that graduated from LSU. I know the handful of UL people who are like that but I can guarantee you nobody wants to move to BR for the quality of life, job market, or schools. Just about everyone from Lafayette that I knew at LSU either moved back home or moved to Houston. Baton Rouge is a terrible place outside of the LSU bubble.

No one advocates for Baton Rouge on account of its "culture"; people do so every day for Lafayette. So tell me, where would you send a tourist in Lafayette to get cajun food just like your Maw used to make? I've got nothing. Can you think of anything?
TCoons, Bon Temp? Poches isn't in Lafayette but a few minutes away. Much better choices than BR.

Silly, silly, silly
It's true and you know it. I didn't say Monroe even though Monroe has better restaurants than BR.
TJ Ribs used to be the best option in Baton Rouge.

The South Lafayette, Maurice, Youngsville, Broussard erea is, in my opinion, the single best area to live in the entire state. the cajun culture is strong due to proximity to Vermilion Parish. Great demographics, low crime, pretty great schools, heavily republican. The food is unreal. Don't plan on ever leaving.
If Lafayette to you means you never ventured past the I10 area, UL campus, anything north or west of Johnston street, then you understandably think its like any other shite hole in Louisiana and you should spread the word.
Because South Lafayette is growing increasingly fast.
Oh and if you REALLY want good cajun food, Cajun Table and Pinchers are incredible.

What is with this projection?

I grew up on the south side of Lafayette and all my family is still there. But sure, I've never ventured past UL's campus
And brother, at which point you're having to cite to Maurice, Youngsville, and Broussard, you've conceded the argument

One of the problems with this area is everyone in this area thinks it's the best place and has the best people.
I just don't care for that mentality.
The worst thing about the Lafayette area is the amount of growth versus no significant infrastructure to accommodate the additional traffic. The bad traffic in the area seems to be predominantly because 99 percent of the people drive like shite. You can't make it down a single section of roadway without running into a shitty driver.

Lafayette traffic isn’t nearly as bad as people try to make it out to be if you live in Lafayette and are traveling to other places in the city. Now if you live on the outskirts, or in Broussard or Youngsville, then yeah traffic probably sucks for you.
The only people who complain about Lafayette traffic are people from economically declining redneck towns or people who commute from Youngsville. The latter brought t h at upon themselves.
Ive lived in BR, Nola, Lafayette, South Florida, and Houston. Lafayette was a cakewalk.

The only place I find traffic to really be bad is Ambassador from Lourdes to Johnston. It isn’t all the time.

Mate, you’ve posted in these threads about BR’s food scene. I’ll give you that more high end restaurants exist in BR but the majority of those would be mid tier at best in places like NOLA or Houston. It isn’t enough to wash away the crime problem or general trashiness that has enveloped BR.

Then you are going to have to provide evidence that Baton Rouge is better than Lafayette, because nobody with a brain believes that. Baton Rouge has never had anything better than another Louisiana city, besides for LSU. If a College football team is the only thing positive, it's not a very good place.
I don't know anyone that would move there over Lafayette.

As someone who spends a fair amount of time in both Houston and New Orleans, I don't disagree, at all. In fact, I've posted repeatedly that I would never pretend as though the BR food scene is on the level of New Orleans, and I would certainly include Houston in that. My issue is that people from Lafayette do act as though their food scene is on that level, when it isn't. And it isn't close.

Lafayette’s mid tier restaurants are good. It’s “fine dining” is non existent. Which I’m sure people don’t mind when considering the trade offs.

I would say that Jane's is probably the closest thing to it.

Lafayette, sincerely, has a better food scene than it has any right to for a city its size. The fact that it at least can argue with being as good as Baton Rouge is a testament to that. I simply disagree with the statement that it has a better food scene, and I give significant pushback when people pretend like it’s far better.
But frankly, that’s separate and apart from the “culture” argument. I know what the culture looks like. I remember riding in my Cajun French speaking Pop’s truck listening to zydeco. I remember when crawfish étouffée was still poor people food. That was Cajun culture. Walk around Lafayette and tell me who’s speaking Cajun French and listening to accordions and washboards. Crawfish tails are fricking $20 a pound now. Randol’s is a motherfricking Superior fricking Grill now. The “culture” ain’t what it used to be
Posted on 3/2/26 at 12:19 pm to Joshjrn
I think minus the last complaint that’s a nation wide change. No one is closed off in their little area anymore.
And I blame Houston for the crawfish prices. People here go nuts for it. I don’t get it.
