Laffy has worse slums than Lake Chuck for over 30 years.
Baton Rouge changed after Katrina and not for the better. The 2016 floods hurt BR even more.
There are plenty enough good restaurants to eat at in Baton Rouge. I don't need Laffy or NOLA for that. It took two years to get my wife to sell property she inherited I found even Uptown to be a shithole even with some decent folks.
FTR, all of Louisiana went down a lot in the mid 80's with the oil crash. Money was flowing like a broken NOLA water main. As for as city government goes, Lake Chuck is the best run with plenty of cash reserve. They bit the bullet in the mid 90's.to start putting away funds just in case.

I have some coworkers that commutes from Laffy to BR daily. It doesn't take long for their cars to become near worthless with high miles and wear and tear.
Is housing that much more affordable in Laffy?

Definitely used to be able to go to restraunts with good cajun food. I don't know about now though. Been awhile since I've been to Lafayette.
I can’t think of a single Cajun restaurant in Lafayette that I would tell a tourist to go to with pride because I thought it was a good representation of the cuisine.

Traffic not nearly as bad.
Nonsense. Baton Rouge has a much more accessible road system with far fewer dead end neighborhoods and without the restriction of only being able to cross the river at specific points. I almost never get “stuck” in traffic in Baton Rouge the way I do in Lafayette.
Now go ahead and tell me that I’m wrong by citing to getting over the new bridge; maybe you’ll notice the irony yourself without my having to point it out

Dude you’re way out of touch.
LC is so awful these days. It’s Shreveport level bad.

BR people have some complex towards Lafayette. They clearly have a bias and think LC is better.
Nola people don’t like BR. They have a bias and think Lafayette is better.
It’s like br sticks with LC and Nola sticks with Lafayette.
It’s an odd situation but it’s Louisiana so it checks out

Can’t speak for anyone else, but this absolutely does not apply to me. I think Lafayette is fine and punches above its weight; it’s just not as good as people pretend it is, just like Baton Rouge isn’t as bad as people pretend it is.
Both are way better than Lake Charles

They also have the flagship school, University of Louisiana.
I totally agree with this. I am a LSU and UL alumni and I think while LSU is a national research university...UL is redneck U and therefore the flagship.

It's between 50 minutes and 6 hours from Lafayette to Baton Rouge.
Have to account for a random tree falling on the bridge, an 18 wheeler accident, and the backups on the Mississippi River bridge.
You just assume take the scenic route on 190 and cross Baton Rouge’s Huey P.

Baton Rouge has more “high end” food. And by high end, I mean places that wouldn’t last in a real city.

1. Lafayette has a significantly higher ratio of neighborhoods that are one way in, one way out. That limits detour potential when major arteries are congested.
2. Lafayette has a river running through the middle of it. You can only cross said river at specific points (commonly referred to as “bridges”). That limits detour potential when major arteries are congested.

This is a good thing.

One can certainly argue that it’s a good thing in a host of areas. Traffic is simply the one area in which it is objectively bad, both for the people within the neighborhood and the city in general.

Nah, we don’t need you yahoos barreling through our neighborhoods because you are too stupid to leave on time.

Passive aggressive way to concede the point, but I’ll take it

It’s like comparing two assholes.
They both stink so wipe them off.
