I was gonna be terse in response, but this hit me a bit:
As much as we may disagree and get snarky with each other, we each have people whom we love and who love us in return. That's what makes this world work. There's too much vitriol in it lately.
I stand by my original words, but I harbor no ill will toward you or anyone else here. I do hope you have a wonderful day and weekend, and that disagreements here are soon forgotten as little more than an annoying fly buzzing the dinner table.

My wife is an AP now but she was a public school elementary teacher for 12 years beforehand.
We never did the wish list because we could afford what she needed, but I am not exaggerating when I say we spent $500+ a year on supplies for her classroom. I think her district gave them a small stipend to office deport, provided a box of pencils, and a reem of paper.
I can see how a new teacher would need help building out the classroom. I think the starting salary in our parish is $47,000 for teachers.
The supply list for the students did include things like expo markers, tissues, etc.
Here is just an example - if you want this learning block set, it's $7.99. It would be $160 for a class set. This is not provided by the district.

Frankly I'm amazed by all of this useless crap.
My Mom and Dad provided us with some notebooks and some pens/pencils.
That's all our schools required. The schools provide the textbooks.
Hell, our schools didn't even have A/C . AC wasn't provided until I got to high school (Terrebonne parish).
I had to buy a couple of things for drafting and wood working, no big deal.
Nowadays we are spoiling these children, we are allowing them to be soft.

Yes. It was time and I don’t blame teachers for moving on. The pension is nice but it isn’t a big enough carrot.

For me, it’s none of that. It’s for things like class projects where additional supplies are needed, or for a class party, or other things.
