It baffles me why people even go in the first place.

Is it keeping up appearances?

What's the point of going to mass if you're gonna judge others?
No telling what could have happened to make them late

Agree. I do not like the Protestentation trend of the Church.

They are desperate to get young people in the doors. Only thing keeping Catholic Church going in Louisiana is the Public Schools are complete shite in most places. No one cares about the church just that they are in the cool catholic school.

So you too have attended mass in western Kentucky? I cannot figure those guys out.

They sit around talking out loud before mass begins and then the priest has everyone greet each other before. Their choirs are in front of the congregation and when it is time for the responsorials the director raises his arm to let everyone know it is time to sing - as if everyone did not already know that.

For me a Catholic mass must be majestic, beautiful, and comforting yet also terrifying. In western Kentucky there are none of those things. I cannot decide if they look like Catholics trying to parody Protestants, or Protestants trying to parody Catholics.

They have started a bunch of protestant bull shite at several churches I've been to, and I like to skip all that. Standing to shake hands with the stranger next to you. frick that shite. We're catholic. If I wanted fellowship, I'd go to mass on Wednesday nights with the other men with haircuts that are too perfect and eat pot-luck casseroles made with mustard powder, cream of mushroom and pillsbury crescent rolls. But I'm not. And these so-called catholic churches also do the thing where they send the kids up for the kids' sermon and they ask the parishioners to stretch their arms out and close their eyes to pray for the kids. I can't think of something more protestant. Bunch of mumbo-jumbo. Catholics don't believe in that bull shite. We believe in real shite, like transubstantiation. Don't get me started on how they changed the words to everything. I'm not giving in on that. frick that and frick showing up 30 minutes early, or what you've described as "on time."

Let's all point and laugh at the try-hard papist, everyone.

Isn’t any worse than leaving after communion.

I remember when I was young they had a nun that would snuff that stuff out quick. If she caught you sneaking out before Mass was finished that was your ###. lol

Maybe there was something, out of their control, on the way to Mass, that caused them to be late. Either way.. Do you really give a frick?

And if they were late and it was beyond their control, or even if it was not beyond their control.. Maybe they were watching a game and lost track of time.. They might have still wanted to at least go get communion.

As long as you get in a little Liturgy of the Word in, and you stay ALL THE WAY until the blessing (no skipping out after communion)....

you good.

I highly suspect they were late because bawette was doing her hair and/or makeup.

I hope not. I like having an occasional laugh during mass. I grew up in the post-Latin 60's when it was all doom and gloom and the homily consisted of the priest instructing and lecturing you in a low, monotonous tone. I like that people stay after mass to chat with each other instead of that slow, quite march out into the parking lot. My main reason for mass is to have a time to get a little hope and feel closer to my deceased parents and grandparents. I want to do that and leave with a smile on my face.
You will always have priests who are able to slip some humor into their homilies, but the education they are getting in homiletics in Seminary is better, now.

People will not stop hanging out after and talking, especially in many parishes after the main morning Mass, so many now do doughnuts and such afterwards so people stay. Where I play, some stay upwards of 15-20 minutes especially outside of football season, or on Sundays when the Saints have the late game.

The late-60s-90s happy clappy irrelevant stuff is slowly dropping away, especially as younger folks want something real, authentic and rooted. This idea that 65 year-olds strumming guitars is still "youth ministry" is looked at by many young Catholics as pandering and fake. Many folks in their teens and 20s want something that's real, not put-on. At least, that's what I read in articles and hear from Catholics younger-than-me.

Only if you are a dull, torturous person. The old adage "you get out of it what you put into it" applies. Congratulations on being miserable.
