wife and daughter go to one of those, scripted and perfectly timed to shuttle people in and out like a movie theater
There is one here that is in an old movie theatre. The preacher tries to dress like a hipster and appeal to young people but it's so fake and obvious. He mailed it in for a few weeks and did a thing where he tried to show Christianity in movies like Black Panther, Lion King, etc. It's just silly. My wife was invited by someone to attend and went once out of kindness but refused any further invites.

They have started a bunch of protestant bullshite at several churches I've been to, and I like to skip all that. Standing to shake hands with the stranger next to you. frick that shite. We're catholic. If I wanted fellowship, I'd go to mass on Wednesday nights with the other men with haircuts that are too perfect and eat pot-luck casseroles made with mustard powder, cream of mushroom and pillsbury crescent rolls. But I'm not. And these so-called catholic churches also do the thing where they send the kids up for the kids' sermon and they ask the parishioners to stretch their arms out and close their eyes to pray for the kids. I can't think of something more protestant. Bunch of mumbo-jumbo. Catholics don't believe in that bullshite. We believe in real shite, like transubstantiation. Don't get me started on how they changed the words to everything. I'm not giving in on that. frick that and frick showing up 30 minutes early, or what you've described as "on time."
Agree. I do not like the Protestentation trend of the Church.

Isn’t any worse than leaving after communion.
As long as you were there to put money in the collection, all is good.

they go to Gateway, the preacher, Robert Morris? is kind of like a cult hero, he rarely preaches, and when he does it's pre-taped as they have "campuses" all over the place, kind of turns my stomach but they love it

The most "important" part of the mass is receiving the Eucharist

Um, am I missing something? My earliest memories of mass, which would be the mid 80s, I've always done this.
My parish would have a Sunday "youth mass" that had some weak Christian rock band as if it was a non-denominational service. It lasted a couple years till our priest done away with it.
Hank Hill is right. They don't make Christianity better, it just makes rock and roll worse.

That's between them and the Lord. I don't know anyone else who can give attendance points.

And also with you.
But I'm not talking about that part of the show. I'm talking about making us stand before mass for introductions while I'm trying to close my eyes for 5 goddamn seconds.

They were just being efficient coming for the sacrament and bouncing.

Whats the point of going to Mass if you walk in 30 min late?

I am Methodist and our church has recently started some things like this. I was very confused. We have a more contemporary service as well so lets leave all that in there.

I think he's talking about the introducing yourself to your neighbors that was in the late 90s early aughts.
I'd always give a Jewish name.
Not the sign of peace handshakes.

Yeah me too. Been shaking hands at mass all my life.
Nvm I see what he’s talking about.

I hope not. I like having an occasional laugh during mass. I grew up in the post-Latin 60's when it was all doom and gloom and the homily consisted of the priest instructing and lecturing you in a low, monotonous tone.
I like that people stay after mass to chat with each other instead of that slow, quite march out into the parking lot.
My main reason for mass is to have a time to get a little hope and feel closer to my deceased parents and grandparents. I want to do that and leave with a smile on my face.

He isnt talking about that.
Some churches now do this “greet your neighbor” nonsense for a few minutes before Mass as well
