Alcohol is no longer a guilty pleasure, it's an accessory.

Like "Good School" districts, people similarly are gravitating toward styles and whatnot that tend to be divergent from that of the unions between socio-economic classes.

"They" drink "cheap" beer, so I must not, lest I be one of them....

FWIW, I understand the want, I don't understand the execution.

People gravitate to good school districts because they want a better education for their children. I should not have to worry about my kid getting knifed on a bus in Baton Rouge. Sorry, if I am a bad person because I want better for my children then the entire population of concerned parents are all bad people. Not sure how this even remotely relates to the consumption of a luxury good.

No, I drink craft beer because most, if not all, of it tastes better than Brand X/Y Lite. If someone creates a product that tastes good and is the same/around the same price as a Pabst then I'll buy stock.

You also have a contingent of people who enjoy the idea of supporting local/micro-breweries because it creates market diversity.

Einstein, does it taste better, or do you perceive it tastes better because of what it represents?

have some caviar, foie gras, and 100 year old eggs and tell me how the uniqueness of flavor.....

you are fooling yourself.

IPA-India Pale Ale was developed NOT because it tastes better, but ONLY because that was the way they had to make it so that it wouldn't spoil on the way to India

So grab some Baker's Chocolate and tell me how great it tastes .

You're an idiot if you cannot conceive that sometimes you do get what you pay for. In order to get a better product to market you sometimes cannot compete at the cost level as a major corporation who can operate cheaper than a micro-brewer.

I don't like IPAs, and I don't like some beers that cost more money than what I enjoy drinking. It's a matter of taste, it's not a status or perception thing. With your flawed logic I would like anything that is more expensive. There are plenty of beers that are expensive that I think taste like dirt. Try again, Einstein.

I'd rather pay $9 for a 6 pack of actual beer than that watered down Bud/Miller/Coors stuff.

I haven't bought one of those in at least 5 years. I enjoy trying new beers, especially when I travel.

But if someone hands me a free Bud, I'm not turning it down.

Nothing tickles my fancy than a craft beer with 100+ IBU's. There's nothing like the flavor of cold battery acid.

This is pretty much my take on the situation. If I'm buying beer, I'm typically buying craft beer, but I also don't have a problem crushing an ice cold bud light on a hot summer day at a friend's house.

Cooked meat was developed because some caveman dropped his cut of mammoth into the fire NOT because it tastes better.

how many brands of your craft beers have circled the drains just the past 5 years?

How many brands have you tasted and didn't like?
How many brands have you tasted and liked, but never ordered again?

Now you flippantly cast the shadow of your nose at "Water", but we are talking about only a handful of beers(bud, miller, coors, lites) that while they have been consumed en masse, HAPPILY, for years, even the beers you LIKE you can't stand more than a few bottles "every now and then"

So think about it, who should I respect when they say they like something?

Someone who will drink a 6 pack of what they like every night for the next 60 years....or someone who will only like it once, and then go on to the next one they hope they like better?

Do you eat your favorite meal every night? If the answer is no then I guess I don't believe that it's really your favorite meal.

Some people like variety

McDonalds also has more customers than Commanders Palace, I'm guessing they offer better food?

that is kinda a dumb argument since many people fail to experience a new thing. A lot of those drinkers you mentioned earlier (bud, miller, coors) can't stand hop beers because they smell/taste like perfume. Does that mean they are not good, no it means those people are set in their ways.
The fact that craft beer has cut into the profits of the big beer industry and the big beer industry means that it is picking up and those opinions matter. Those people may be from the big ones occasionally but they are still looking for things with more flavor and because hops are fickle you may not get the same flavor from the same hops year around.

Some people love bitter flavors and adore IPA's. I am not one of those people. I like Belgian Ales which are boozy and a little sweet, kind of like a carbonated smooth bourbon. What I like is around 9-12% alcohol. If you're a BMC kinda guy, there's nothing wrong with that. I love a Bud Lite Lime on a summer day. However, live a little and try a Chimay Blue on a day when you don't have to drive anywhere. It's a great beer for sipping and unwinding, but it can knock you on your arse in a hurry!

Modern IPAs were/ are developed for taste.

How many brands have you tasted and didn't like?

Plenty....but other people may like what I don't. Abundance of choice is the americun way.

quote:

Not many. If I like something I will drink it again. But with so many different choices, excuse me if I don't come back for another for a while.

Just like a rich slice of cake, some beers are excellent in small doses.

That would be like eating the same food every night.

You better wear a jumpsuit everyday, eat nothing but spaghetti, butter, and ketchup everyday for every meal, and only drink water or you are a huge hypocrite.
