My first summer job was running parts at an aircraft repair center. Kept with it during the year, either getting parts ready for the next day or tearing down incoming brake units. By the time I was in college I was assembling brakes during nightshift. Only a couple people would be at the shop, I’d throw my headphones in and start throwing things together. Then the units that were built and inspected earlier that day I would move around on the forklift to be picked up by the truck the next morning. Looking back it was a solid job where I had to interact with almost nobody

Damn near everything I’ve ever done has been a “baw” job. Grew up on a dairy farm. Milked cows, shoveled shite, etc. Later ran a hay farm. Ran cattle for a while. Deckhand on a shrimp boat. OTR truck driver. Ran a hotshot rig as well. Worked for Hallmark delivering shelving to their stores. Moved on to white collar work for a while as a writer, professor, and lawyer. Now back to physical work as a telco field tech. Not sure where I’ll be a decade from now, but it has been an interesting ride so far.

This pretty much sucks.

Worked cleanup in a saw mill. It was pretty cool, actually. Switched box cars, ran saws in the yard, ran hysters, set up sprinklers on log sets......

Worked on an anchor handling supply boat for a few hitches one summer. We got paid $5 an hour straight time and got time and a half after the the 40 hours. We were pod for every second we were out there.

When we left the dock we had no idea where we were going or when we would be back. Sometimes it would be 5 days some jobs would last 2 weeks. Needless to say I quit that job after a few months

Union card at 15, worked Laborers Local out of the Chuck. Spent summers working on prepping and pouring concrete aprons/grades under overpasses on I-10.
Made a pile of money each summer.

Eventually worked up to a bricklayer helper (pops was a bricklayer) and did turnarounds at the plants. Good times.
