My sister (no pics) is moving there (N Rampart st) soon. She is in med school at LSU. I know the bywater area is across the canal from the lower 9th.

Kinda concerned for her safety

I guess if your frame of reference is Da Parish.

It's almost all gentrified now. If she uses common sense you shouldn't be concerned.

In before about 25 hipster comments.

I'd be more concerned about her getting indoctrinated, converted and the under arm shaving stops.

Relatively safe from crime and flooding as long as you stay south of St. Claude. Beautiful architecture. Hipsters everywhere. Walking/biking distance from most cbd, french quarter, bayou st. John, etc.

Mostly militant hipsters south of St. Claude Ave. St. Claude to N Claiborne is a mix of heroin addicts, poor hipsters, AirbnBs and ghetto trash. North of Claiborne is completely ghetto.

Lots of hobo looking people and gays. Easy targets for criminals so naturally lots of robberies take place.

The hipster complaints on this board are dumb. No one forces you to talk politics with them. They run good coffee shops, restaurants, and tend to own breweries so they're good in my book.

I don't loathe hipsters because I'm having regular political discussions with them. There's plenty of other reasons.

Bywater has come a long way the last few years. It’s loaded with tatoo’d “edgy” hipsters, but for the most part it’s pretty safe. Like anywhere in New Orleans she needs to practice some common sense when it comes to safety, especially after dark.

exactly

as if half the people on this board could even pick one out of a crowd

They act like they meet them at the town hall for debates twice a week

Bywater area

My smart arse friend calls the Bywater "Brooklyn on the Bayou." A historic neighborhood that's been gentrified & hipster-ized. Unless she's deathly allergic to patchouli or smug arrogance, she'll be fine.

N Rampart is a block from St Claude Ave, which marks the north eastern border of the Bywater. Further in that direction, things get a lot sketchier in places.

Yeah those people have been great for the city. I would rather be around hipsters than rednecks
