Yeah we know. Everyone is going to get raped and shot.
That’s the reason young people have been moving there from all over the country over the last 10 years

Lot of Hipsters there including Med students and residents. Lithette #2 lived there part of Med School and so far in Residency. No issues but just needs to be aware of her situation. Congrats your sister will be a Doctor in 4 years and a liberal in 3.

And if you had bought all that crap 10 years ago you wouldn't have to work

It was working class in the 50s and 60s, went to shite until just prior to Katrina when gay people began scooping up property and renovating, then it became a hipster area with a mix of nice and rundown together. My friend's parents have lived there since the 1960s and have seen their property values rollercoaster over those decades. The value is high but the area is still subject to significant safety issues.

When the GF moved to NOLA her Dad mentioned she'd get raped and murdered and mentioned rape again. So we tell people they'd get raped murdered and raped again.

You know people bitching about "hipsters" living in new orleans probably don't live in new Orleans themselves. Gentrification is slowly dragging this city out of the third world. Thank god for it.

When i moved to new orleans, districts like the bywater and marigny were unlivable.

The only problem is that the Hipsters either don’t vote or they vote for the same kleptocratic crooks that are running the city into the ground.

Fwiw, I totally agree. And I didn't technically complain about them

I had a couple of gay co-workers who bought houses in Bywater in the early days. One of them even cut a escape hatch out in the floor in case there was a home invasion. They had issues with crime. Both finally gave up and sold their houses after Katrina and made big bank.

Seconded.

Tell her to keep her head on a swivel and to expect petty crime & scratches/damage to her vehicle and she should be OK.

Not a bad place for a 20-something to land.

She'll fit right in.

She is living with her BF

Sounds like she will be fine. She dresses kinda hipster and loves their type of social scene.

But she also Duck and deer hunts and owns guns. And is a big Trump supporter. She is an odd mix

Not going to want to make that too known in that area.

They can not vote or vote for whoever the frick they want. Who gives a shite?

Their positive influence however (along with gays) on the city of new orleans can't be denied or dismissed. The bywater and marigny would be unlivable without them.

These people should be welcomed with open arms. They actually have a measurable positive impact socially and economically. Everytime a "hipster" or gay displaces a garden variety piece of shite ghetto banger, the city gets better. In the marigny and bywater, that's what they've done and continue to do.

Not bad at all. We walk through the area often. I would not say it’s ok to walk around alone at night - it’s really not very safe to do do that in many places. She will be in a great location for medical school too. Wish her the best.
