What’s something you learned the Hardway?

I learned a long time ago that, make sure the plug is in the boat before you launch. I’ve forgot 1time many years ago. Once we figured why there was water on the bottom, then trying to find the plug, everything was just a massive cluster F&$?. I’m sure there are more, but for some reason this came to mind.

Unfortunately, pretty much everything. Especially when it comes to women.

Running in a boat at night with lights off can help you see things a bit better but another boat doing that same stupid shite coming at you is a problem for both boats.
Just slow down in the mist and fog and keep those lights on. Give yourself a chance.

Own up immediately to your frickups. Take your lumps, and work on fixing whatever it is you fricked up. Letting it fester will rarely make it go away.
Oh, and keep multiple 10mm sockets on hand.

Don't smart off to someone who might whip your arse. Seventh grade, Mexican kid in El Paso rides his bike by my house. For no reason, I said "that sure is a shitty looking bike." He got off the bike, gave me a fair but complete arse whipping, then got on his bike and left.
Dad was in the house, just back from Vietnam. He said "you deserved what you got." The kid and I became friends after that. His mother made the best cheese enchiladas I've ever had.

Only dogs and kids get unconditional love.

Found myself miserable the first years of career.
Why? Got a degree that would earn a lot of money over time but earned me roles that differed significantly from my DNA / my interests / what I loved to do / natural talents.
Lesson: right order of prioritization
(If degree is necessary or of interest)
2nd - get degree with strong earning potential
1st - get clear on who you are and what you love to do
If both, great! If stay true to your interests, money will follow.

Old fashioned arse whippings as a learning experience are greatly underrated (and missing generally in our society). No five against one, no FB or social media drama and no kicking when the person is done.

Spend as much time as you can with your parents as they age. They can be gone in the blink of an eye.

Fortunately, I haven’t been on the receiving end of this, but I’ve heard and seen enough stories to know you never know what someone else may do. Don’t write checks with your mouth that your arse can’t cash so to speak.
