The early American colonists were not religious refugees as is often claimed. Jamestown was already settled by 1607 (13 years before Mayflower). It was a money making venture that had nothing to do with religion at all.
This isn't really a "hot take," just a fact.

Even if reinforcements came as they were at the Sabine river as the Alamo fighting was going on, they probably still wouldn't lost.

I don't know about that one. I know where it comes from, and you're not wrong in that thinking. But my counter point is this. The Russians were using US Trucks, US food and US bullets. Without American logistics, Russia gets overrun in year two of Barbarossa.
The US had the material, Russia had the men and the political will to sacrifice millions to defeat the Nazi’s. The Eastern Front was personal between the Nazi’s and the Soviet’s.

Everybody knew what was set up at the time. There had been previous attempts to get media attention on the issue; there was still segregated bussing in Birmingham That's a historical fact
99% of people have no idea that it was staged.

far too many upvotes and not near enough downvotes for a hot take thread.
you gotta say something like "Douglas MacArthur was the greatest general America ever produced"

Once you come to the realization that they are all on the same team (pro wrestling for the intellectual), then it all makes sense.

Probably not hot takes, but here are a few.
Senators should be chosen by the state reps, not elected, like initially set up.
Voters should only be those who own property.

Can you imagine how scared those cops were asking a black lady to move on the bus

Well I think your math may be a little bit off
but then this should be in the thread Give an example from what people think is history that proves they're incredibly stupid
And it's often presented as if it was just a whole lot to do about nothing. There was segregating busing
the Rosa Park aspect may have been a stunt but what it was highlighting was very real
Thats the factual history

With how much we know we are being manipulated today, I imagine half the “history” we know isn’t accurate.

We fought war in Afghanistan specifically to secure the poppy/opium trade. The Taliban had largely destroyed the opium crop, and we came in to prop it up. This directly led to the rise of the opioid crisis, and enriched Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family, directly at the expense of people in Applachia. We're still, as a society, paying for this mistake, while none of the evil Sacklers are hung or in prison.
The less hot take of this and probably more true, we (CIA) gave the afgan poppy farmers a market to sell their product to buy loyalty. In turn the Sackler's secured enough opium to create a generation of addicts with help of the FDA turning a blind eye
It is not like the CIA didn't do the same thing with coke to crack in the 80s

I think that the Alamo at a certain point became
death by dying heroically for Travis and Crockett ..
I think Bowie was out of it at that point
but they did stay they knew what they were facing and they stayed and it did by Sam Houston some time
Now whether it was a smart move yeah that's absolutely open for debate

Is it even a hot take to say that the CIA took JFK out

Not sure if this qualifies as a hot take, but in all wars between peoples, whether it be nation vs nation, or conqueror vs conquered, there is no clear division of good vs evil. There is nothing except for various shades of grey.

The south should have listened to Sam Houston
quote:
Let me tell you what is coming. After the sacrifice of countless millions of treasure and hundreds of thousands of lives you may win Southern independence, but I doubt it. The North is determined to preserve this Union. They are not a fiery, impulsive people as you are, for they live in colder climates. But when they begin to move in a given direction, they move with the steady momentum and perseverance of a mighty avalanche."

I'm aware of lend lease, overall that was maybe 15% of Russia's military resources,
It wasn’t the amount of overall resources that the US provided the Soviets, it was the type of resources the US provided. Take food for example, roughly 50% of all fats consumed by the Red Army came from Lend Lease. Almost 20% of their meats came from Lend Lease.
Then there is aviation fuel. Almost 60% of aviation grade fuel used by the Soviets came from Lend Lease.
Then there are locomotives. The Soviets repurposed all their locomotive production plants to build tanks. Lend Lease provided almost 2,000 engines, 11,000 rail cars, and over 50% of all track rails used by the Soviets during the war.
There is commo wire and radios. The Soviets could not produce vacuum tubes during the war. They also could not produce telephone wire. Lend lease supplied the Soviets over 400,000 field telephones, 35,000 advanced radio stations, and roughly 1 million kilometers of telephone wire.
In the early stages of Barbarossa, the Germans captured almost all aluminum and copper mines the Soviets had. Lend lease supplied the Soviets the aluminum and copper needed to keep their factories rolling.
The Soviets had zero access to natural rubber and also lacked the chemical engineering capability to produce synthetic rubber. Not only did the US supply them tires, the US dismantled and shipped an entire tire factory to the Soviets. Without this, the Soviets would have produced exactly zero tiers after 1941.
And that’s not to mention the thousands of Studebaker trucks the US provided, which constituted almost 60% of all wheeled transportation used by the Red Army throughout the war. By 1944, that number had climbed north of 70%.
Between 1942 and 1944, roughly 50% of the total TNT and direct chemical precursors used in munitions manufacturing, ranging from HE tank shells, land mines, and artillery shells, came from lend lease.
While the Soviets could produce basic structural steel, they lacked the capability of mass producing high-grade rolled steel used in tank armor. Up to 80% of the rolled steel the Soviets used make armored vehicles came from Lend Lease.
All that is to say without Lend Lease, the Soviets would not have been able to:
1. Feed its army
2. Communicate with its army
3. Use its Air Force
4. Get supplies the front
5. Move it’s army other than by foot or hoof
6. Supply the factories with raw materials
7. Produce sufficient munitions to fight the war.
8. Produce tanks with actual armor protection.
Add all that up, and even with the victory at Stalingrad in early 1943, the Red Army, and indeed the Soviet Union itself, would not have lasted past the end of the year if not for Lend Lease.
