No infrastructure whatsoever. All the roads built by the colonist have gone to waste after years of no maintenance. Now China has agreed to pay for roads if they have access to minerals. Problem is China hires Chinese immigrants to build the roads, and they ultimately spend their earnings on Chinese goods. Win-win for China. They’re mostly there for cobalt and other precious metals though.

Sadly most of the African countries were decent places back in the 50s during the colonial era. After they asked for their independence everything went to shite

The people over there haven’t evolved much above from tribalism. They live for settling scores and they a lot of scores to settle. The leader doesn’t simply want to get rich, he wants to kill and eliminate his rivals, even at the expense of his own success. Life means nothing over there. Property means little over there. It’s all about who is stronger . And , in today’s age , “stronger” means who has the bigger guns. Alpha Male lions don’t team up. They kill each other to establish dominance . This is very similar to the people over there.

I think you summed it up well. They are literally the only region on the fricking planet that still acts this way. Everyone else quit acting like fricking savages centuries ago.
The problem is there leaders have no interest in helping grow their countries, only themselves, and the people are too stupid to realize it and stand up to it. Everywhere else in the world the people overthrew these types of morons, but in Africa they keep ruling. I have zero sympathy for them.

China has stepped in and taken over what the colonists left behind. Africa in general is unable to manage their own resources and govern themselves. If you see construction happening in Africa these days there is a good chance that it's a Chinese company doing it.

This, and not to delve too much, but the simple answer is still tribalism. People hate people.

Like LSU fans hate Bama fans, Cowboys fans hate Eagles fans.

There just seems to be a more deep lying want of complete genocide over there.

shite, look at the murder rates.

Force European nations to denounce their independence, make them become part of Africa, and everyone on both continents will will surely be better together. Call iit the Broome Doctrine.

I wish I understood economics like this. Call me stupid, put I really don't understand how monetary values are derived and what causes the fluctuation.

I know that ours used to be backed in gold, held at Ft. Knox but those days are long gone and I have no clue where the gold went or why it suddenly isn't backed by anything but has value.

That's what I get for settling for a damn Sociology degree.

I’d answer but don’t want to get banned. I can only say the vast majority of Inhabitants of that continent have been running around with shite on their heads chunking Spears since the dawn of man. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Many Americans assume that all African countries aspire to be modern industrial economies but just can't get their shite together.

Maybe some folks there are quite content being agrarian and living a simpler life. Nobody wants to starve and be ridiculously poor, but not every country or community wants to become 1960s Detroit.

We're thinking, "Why can't they be like us?" And they think, "Thank god we aren't like them."

I have been to different parts of Africa 15 times.

It is lost, gone...

People use burnt tires to cook their food. They sleep on the ground with no shelter. Rioting for food...

Did not look to me like they thought we (Americans) were a bunch of dumbass'..

But it is what it is, when you have thousands of years of over corruption by their leaders who take 100% of the spoils and leave the people nothing and to govern themselves, with no training or education.

It is a free for all...a very sad one
