I was going into the tenth grade.

The night the USMNT upset Portugal in the group stage of the World Cup was the first night I ever got drunk. The WC was happening halfway across the world so the match was on at like 2a.

Camp Doha, Kuwait
Doing week on/week off guard duty, mostly playing ps2 and looking at hotornot.com.
I was just coasting. Life was pretty good.

Both of our sons were in high school and our house and driveway were always packed. I probably went to the grocery store more days than not. On Sundays, my husband grilled enough to feed an army, and there was always an army. Those were some of the best years in my life.

Just graduated college

Moved to Orlando to start grad school, first semester early 2002

Used the spring/summer on a summer job working for EA Sports getting paid to play Madden 2003 full time and eventually 80-100 hours per week.

It was a solid year for me, one of my favorites.

Finishing 8th grade and starting 9th with no idea wtf was going on with my life. 9/11 wasn’t that long ago and war made for good nightly news ratings.

Twenty five, married, bought my first house, and began watching the trend of every five years Georgia getting this close to a natty before shitting the bed. Not to say we would have jumped Miami or OSU even if Terrance Edwards caught that pass against Florida.

I was renting a dump in midcity NOLA for $350/month (no joke), paying off debt, and saving to buy a house. Upward trajectory.

I was 24/25. I was 2 years removed from active duty in the USMC. My kiddo was only 3/4. I was complaining my 2nd year of college. I was receiving my GI Bill and working two part time jobs, one at Cortana.

Life was crazy....but simple.

I was 42 and stationed in Stuttgart-Vaihengen, Germany (Patch Barracks) in support of OEF. I was a Tech Sgt in the US Air Force and, not realizing it at the time, life was on an upward trajectory.

Think about this. The Wonder Years premiered in 1988 and was about growing up in 1968. If it were remade today, it would be about life in 2001.
