I grew up in N LA so I remember remnants of hurricanes blowing through, usually as tropical storms. The first actual hurricane I rode out in place was Hugo. Stood outside in the eye as it passed over.

Andrew in Baton Rouge. Was the first I remember.
Freshman year at LSU. Went for 3 days then classes canceled for a week.
No power at my parents for 3-5 days if I remember.

Me too. I grew up in Auburn. My oldest sister picked me up from kindergarten and we had to go get one of my brothers from the Jr. High School. I was holding onto to door so tight that as he opened the door I fell out and was washed into the opening of a storm drain about 50 feet away. If I was smaller I would have been washed down into that thing. Our neighborhood looked like a war zone after it passed through and I believe we were without power for two weeks.

Andrew is the first I really remember was around 9.
Biggest thing was a damn squirrel hit the powerline and we lost power like 3 days before the storm and cleco refused to come fix it until after the storm
Squirrel hit the cutout so all they needed was the long pole to put it back in. Literally 1 minute to fox.

Mine was a hell of a first: Andrew 1992 just south of Naples.
You picked a winner for a first. My daughter was born a couple days after Andrew Louisiana landfall. She will be 29 tomorrow!
I dont remember the name but my first was a nothing burger. I went to work that day and nothing closed except maybe some schools.

Andrew, in St. Landry Parish. Basically a TS.
Worst before Ida.. Gustav in Opelousas. Opelousas got the eye. Was at my grandparents' house behind Creswell on the Park Vista side. It was not a strong storm by then but it still leveled trees all around town, and I saw a building get hit by a tornado or microburst or whatever.. roof of B&S Carpet looked like the hand of God punched straight down on top of it. Debris everywhere.
That will probably pale in comparison to what we're about to get in BR.

Andrew was when I was in high school but I can't recall any memorable ones earlier than that.
