Frederick in 1979 I think. Family was on vacation at Gulf Shores and we got the evacuation order. The hotel we were staying in facing the ocean was completely demolished.

Hilda in ‘64. We had a large oak tree blow over in our back yard. It was the first time I remember my mom being frightened and showing it.

I was born at 7 o’clock in the morning during hurricane Audrey at Our Lady Of The Lake in Baton Rouge. That’s close enough to qualify.

Ivan made me appreciate the power of nature. And then Katrina did too. But last year’s Sally was bad for me for personal reasons. I was riding it out on a boat in dog river and had to get off it and drive to my mom’s house, to the hospital and back to the boat in the eyewall from 12:30 am to 5:30 am. It was not a bad storm, but it did contribute to killing both my my parents as a tree fell on my Mom’s house and she had to go to the hospital, and the assisted living facility my dad was in (that he actually liked) had a tree fall through it and they had to evacuate all the residents. Yeah, no where near the strongest storm but the one that hurt me the most so far.,

I remember Camille I was 4. I was looking out the window and my mom losing it and screaming at me to "Get away from the window". I was a little turd and kept going back to the window. My brother tied a big rock with some rope and hung it form a limb to see how far the wind would blow it.

The first hurricane I remember hitting LA was Andrew. The first I remember paying attention to was Hugo in 1989. My mom's family is from Charleston, SC and my grandparents came to BR to get away and we watched Hugo destroy Charleston on TV.

Lily put 4ft of water in my house as a kid. When the insurance adjuster came, dad handed him a picture of me riding my pirogue through the house. That’s all he needed to see.

Andrew 92’; got my arse whipped because I kept opening the refrigerator door to grab stuff. Pops and our neighbor running around with chainsaws clearing the road for people drying by. My brother and I picked up shingles in our yard for a month it felt like.

Audrey, was 7 in ‘57, and was kinda scared at first because my mom was scared but then thought it was cool. Hilda and Betsy were first ones in which I was old enough to be worried.

Here’s a neat note: when Camille hit in 1969 I was in Okinawa watching via days-old news reports. Then two days later we were hit by a significant typhoon.
