But like others here, I don't consider it stupid.

What kind of toys do you keep buying? My dogs are.. 12 years old and 13 years old, but since they were puppies... if I got them a toy.. If I got each one the same toy.. they would play with one, with each other until it turns into a fight because one does something that pisses the other one off. Then after about 3 or 4 days.. One of them will grab it, take it outside and piss on it. Their favorite toys are the ones that was once something else that has been used as a toy. They used their pillows as a toy. My female dog will drag the pillow with the male dog on it.
if its a squeak toy... my female dog will run around with it in her mouth squeaking it until the goes outside with it and tear it up until she gets to the part that squeaks.. Her playtime is scouting out squirrels and trying to catch them. Or a rabbit.

“Books”
I’m definitely going to show this to my wife.I buy a lot of books, mostly just 1 copy but occasionally 2 more to give away if it’s really good and think of someone that would enjoy it.
We’ve got a large walk in closet and it’s full to the brim, been sticking them in other cabinets around the house.
Wife bitches all the time.
I used to spend a lot of money on fishing, don’t fish much anymore especially since we built a pond.
Likewise,I used to spend a lot on hunting but at my age I mostly just deer hunt on my land I live on.My age (75) got a lots of stuff, too many rifles.
Don’t smoke,drink or gamble.

Right there with you.. Found two bottles of EH Taylor and a bottle of Eagle rare this past weekend and when i brought them home my wife was like " are we cracking one of those open" Me: Hell no! .. her face of disdain after that was priceless..
She can't understand why I'll buy it and not drink it..
Your wife is right here. Crack them open. EH Taylor, ER and even Blantons is easily found on the shelves now not to crack them open.
I'm not saying I don't have 5-6 of each of those uncracked in case I don't keep finding them

I buy a XL Kong wubba at least once a week. Cletus loves them. We have regular kongs that go with the Kong Korkz which will occupy the frenchies for an hour (Cletus just pries it out and eats it). And smaller soft toys that squeak for the little girls but the frenchies usually destroy those.
We have 2 pupsicle balls and the refill balls for the frenchies that I occasionally have to replace.
I have tried most of the Kong line.

But why..
There is a long answer to that question, but I am pretty sure you don't actually want that. The short answer is I wanted to, and I can.

I will buy some of these new gadgets that supposedly make doing things easier, like tools or cleaners, etc.

"I spent most of my money on loose women, strong beverage and fine tobacco, the rest I squandered foolishly."
Attributed to Benjamin Franklin, but I doubt that's accurate.
