You'll find similar towns across the south ………. that all have that Mayberry feel.
Agree with this.
West Jefferson, Mars Hill & Hillsborough NC are a few.
Along I-81 in VA are several; Abingdon, Lexington, Staunton & Winchester.

Covington in the 70s and 80s was damn close. Mayor Cooper’s full time job was being the butcher at one of the grocery stores.

Murphy, NC. Though there is an Indian casino and a real-life Barney Fife stumbled into catching Eric Rudolph about 20 years ago.

Bawcomeville has more of a Mount Pilot feel to it.

Mayberry only had the one pharmacist Ellie. Bawcomeville is big city and has a pharmacist willing to fill your needs on every corner

Sisters, OR. Population's less than 3,500 and it's a neat little town out in the middle of nowhere.

At that time, so was Baker. It has to be the poster child for largest fall from decent small town to absolute shite show.

Cleveland, Ga. Nice smallish town where the southern accent is prevalent.

Most of the previously named places are far too large, upscale and modernized to be Mayberry. Carrollton, MS is likely the closest in size, economy, busy bodies and literally nothing has changed in 50 years.

Can confirm, spent some time in the area working awhile back.

Still a Confederate flag flying at the courthouse
