re: What must it be like to grow up surrounded by a wind farm in the Midwest?

Tidal energy is very predictable too, and pretty much out of everyone's sight. It's free energy once you're up and running, and much more efficient than wind and solar. No one even talks about it...huh.

Wind turbines slow down wind speeds and redistribute heat in the atmosphere.
So funny that wind turbines directly cause global warming

You're a weird dude, I find them relaxing to look at

I bet you would hate going to the coast in places like Alabama and seeing all those oil rigs obstructing your serenity.

Do they just sit basically idle during the summer when it’s 100 degrees on the plains ?

We won't let them put one on our ground because we know the people who live around our property. I don't care for them either.

The manufacturing process burns more energy than they ever produce.
Net loser.
As a bonus, the materials cannot be recycled. Once they are taken out of service or have blades replaced the blades just end up in some windfarm graveyard out west.
Total scam, and yes they kill shitloads of birds.

I am very much for increased nuclear but it is only the greenest source until it isn't.

quote:At present, buildings with glass windows kill roughly 2,000 times as many birds as wind turbines in the US. If we ran the country on 100% wind power, they would kill a lot more birds than they do now but still 100 times more would die smashing into windows. And 50 times more would still die being hit by cars. And cats would still kill more birds than everything else put together, by a lot.
They kill untold number of birds
quote:Including all that, roughly 50 times less emissions per kWh lifetime vs a natural gas plant. And the energy is cheaper, too.
And what is the carbon footprint really considering manufacture, transportation, and maintenance?

LOL.....and when the wind isn't blowing?
Fun fact.....when the wind stops these ugly arse fans produce no electricity. Nada. Zip.

There aren't a lot of windless days out in the middle of the prairie - I grew up there and the wind was constantly blowing

quote:So many lies in this thread. This one seems to be based on a selective quote, and the man it was attributed to says as much. The truth is in optimal locations they pay back the energy spent producing them in only a few months. Across about 50 studies of them, the average turbine produces 20X more energy over its lifespan than it took to produce them.
The manufacturing process burns more energy than they ever produce.
quote:Net winner, bigly.

quote:They kill about as many birds as fossil fuel air pollution kills people.
yes they kill shitloads of birds.

STOP MAKING SENSE!!!!!
Next you will tell me that the uber profitable Oil and Gas industry is also incentivized or subsidized by our Govt....
