New Orleans is vibrant and wonderful - it’s better than any time I remember it and I’m nearly 40. I do feel scared about the random crime every time I visit tho

I go back to Monroe every so often. I don't think it's necessarily any better or worse over the years.

I live in Monroe now and pretty much hate it. I don’t have a single thing about it that stands out. A few good restaurants, but no women worth taking there. I’m looking for an escape route.

The homeless population under the Ponchartrain Expressway bridge is especially vibrant! All those tents really do add to our wonderful skyline.

The former bustling metropolis of Chalmette is a shell of itself since Katrina. That was the GOAT place to grow up in the ‘70s/‘80s.

This. Even into the early '80s Baker had average to above average schools, a good racial and economic mix with decent growth and a low crime rate.

Judge Parker and forced bussing put it, and all of EBR Parish, into a downward spiral that will likely never be reversed.

Amen. Never understand the self loathing here for one of the coolest cities in the US.

really pisses me off that New Orleans could have been like Houston if not for the widespread corruption and pathetic government leadership.

even New Orleans at its best would have been held down by being in Louisiana

Depending on how you go back I think the easiest answer is NOLA

Still a fantastic place to visit but it used to be the gem of the South

A lot of Alexandria is like post-apocalyptic. I mean it has to be just about as bad as it gets anywhere.

Venice fits this category on a much smaller scale

Edison Schoest made money moves to bring the majority of O&G business to Fourchon.

This combined with Katrina turned everything south of Belle Chasse into meth capitol. Used to be a lot of good families living down there

Opelousas. It was never great, but it is a complete shithole now.

Opelousas. It's hard to remember but it was a nice place until the 90's. Some of the city's biggest employers closed down after NAFTA was passed and it began a fast decline to where it is today. Productive people left the inner neighborhoods and slumlords goobled up the cheap real estate.

While true, I was solely referring to Shreveport.

City really had potential at one time and was a fun place. It's Detroit lite now

Meh. shreveport def has issues, esp west of I49.

but like baton rouge white flight to bossier, benton area, and south shreveport are all generally great places to live. if south highlands hangs on, which it should for some time due to property values, that area will still thrive.

and crime rate is the lowest since 1975, if what is reported is true (which I question with the corrupt arse new mayor)
