I know Natchez is in Mississippi, but when the paper mill, tire plant, and johns manville plant all three shut down inside of ten years, it had major repercussions up and down the river on the Louisiana side. Those closures devastated that entire area from Natchez to vidalia, ferriday, Monterrey, waterproof and even into Jonesville. Not that any of those places were a prize to begin with.

If you think Natchez is bad, check out Vicksburg. Mississippi might have Louisiana beat in terms of declining cities and towns.

Natchez isn’t really bad, it’s just...stagnant. But If it wasn’t for tourism, that place would be a ghost town.

Natchez drops the ball when it comes to marketing and promoting their tourism. They need to be more diverse than just bed and breakfast places. Why not galvanize the area and turn it into a mini Savannah. A place with a lot of historical traditions and good restaurants and entertainment.

New Orleans used to be one of the most prosperous cities in the nation. It is a lawless burned out hulk now

I bet they all have a similar track record of leadership and demographic shift related to that that helped bring about their demise

Because Savannah has millions people with disposable income within a 4 hour drive, Natchez not so much.

No amount of marketing in the world can overcome that.
