Exactly. I have three that stay outside while I am gone, but they spend most of their time in their outside crates. Most Dogs like to stay in tight closed in places, it makes them feel safe - it's instinctual denning behavior. Couple that with the fact that most dogs sleep 18-20 hrs a day, and it's all good.

My family and I have had two dogs my entire existence.

We used to cage the dogs while my sister and I were at school and my parents were at work.

Then we began to keep them in a pen outside during the warm months.

As we got older, and during the cold months, we'd keep the dogs in the mud room while we are at school and my parents were at work.

Now that I'm older, I don't think I would ever cage up my dog for an entire day. I would, however, make sure they are in an area where they don't wreak havoc on the house and/or neighbors.

We have 3 small dogs but we keep in them in the laundry room. I put dog pad down in case they need to go. Then again, they are not locked up from 7 - 6 everyday though.

Nailed it. Dogs get bored with a wide open yard and that's why they tend to start digging, etc. A kennel run like the one I have gives them enough room to feel like they are in a den and they stay composed and actually enjoy it. Mine will bark occasionally if he's in there alone, but he's with my roommates female lab most of the time and they just lay around all day. Sure they're hot, but they don't pay the bills

I have two dogs. One is free fed at night while the other one sleeps in the crate. We have to put him in the crate while we fees the female because that fatass will eat all her food. They are both left out during the day while we are at work though.

The male spent two years in crate during work hours though. It is a training tool and that fricker ate tables when I left him out as a puppy.

My thought is you should be able to work out the problem here...

My dog will be put into some really tough spots through his life with me. Between the the hunting and general outdoor activities, he will sometimes wish he was back in his kennel in my backyard. I see it as conditioning while most see it as punishment. Trust me, this dude is happy as can be.

From a few days ago doing some water training. 5.5months old

I always crate-train my dogs. They love their little dens.

I have a 1yr old golden that I crate, it's for the safety of the dog and my house. Usually their behavior starts to change after 1-2 years which is when I'll ease him into roaming the house.

He loves his kennel, and he gets a healthy dose of exercise in the mornings and afternoon. The little crapper is spoiled imo.

I kept mine in his crate while I was at work during the day until he was about a year old or so and calmed down. He's loose during the day now and mostly sleeps on the sofa all day. Unless the weather's bad then he jumps into our bed.

Truth. I have 5 outside dogs, 1 inside dog. All of them have crates (outside dogs have individual crates in their kennel and night quarters). They all end up in their crates whether I put them there or not. they seem to like having somewhere to be. The inside dog stays on the sofa or in our bed, so shes not quite as crate trained as the others.

And I will never, ever understand people who don't understand this.

How so? They're an indoor dog, not an outdoor one.

We certainly can...I just don't want a dog in my bed, walking on my pillows, rubbing his a-hole and dick where I put my head. I'm sorry, I just can't get that out of my mind.

I'm not saying you guys are wrong...not even close. I just can't get over the mental hump.

I'm one of them. Rusty (the yorkie) doesn't do well if he isn't crated. Not my fault he is an unmitigated little terror if he isn't crated and an angel if he is.

FTR, the inside dog is a Frenchie, not some big nasty large breed. Those live outside.
