Again, that is a very inaccurate generalization. Some breeds and some temperaments might like it, others not so much.

Dogs are all so different.
Of course it's a generalization. Do you want me to ask the dogs for specifics? And how do you know it's inaccurate? Do you have first-hand experience about staying in kennels? Jeeez..

Sometimes I spend all day in a cage but only because I have severe psychological issues......

I'm about to have to start kenneling mine at night

He's great all day while I'm at work and at the barn. About 2 times a week he's started peeing at night, despite being taken out close to midnight. I've come to the conclusion that he's mad about something, I just can't figure out what.

Thankfully, it's only been in the kitchen where clean up is easy.

Just got a 2 yr old from a rescue. Super chill and he's already crate trained. He gets in there when we are at work and when we go to sleep.

I take him for a 30 min walk every morning, take him out to play in the giant field by the house when I get home. And take him on a run when my SO gets home an hour later. The dude spends 3+ hrs a day outside getting exercise.
Eventually he may be allowed out of the crate when we aren't around, but all he does is lay in his bed in the livin room when he's inside anyway, so he may just keep his crate with the door open.

Dogs like crates of taught they are their happy place

We had to kennel our lab for the first year so and we still come home to shite that has been torn to shreds. As a puppy she would literally chew on the walls. We couldn't possibly leave her out. Now she is calming down (she is a year and a half) and doesn't chew on cabinets or the walls but if she gets a hold of a book, it is a goner. She pulls stuff off of counters as well, I've lost many a loaf of bread and bags of chips. We don't kennel her any more because we hated doing it, we just try to make sure everything is put away before leaving.

My point being that sometime people have to kennel a dog or the dog could seriously harm themselves. They could also tear up everything in the house, costing thousands. The only other option is leaving it outside and that's not always a good option for many reasons.

That's how it was with Butters. He would use the doggy door to go pee/poop outside for the most part...but would still on occasion go inside. I felt like he was just doing it to act out.

I would love to let him have free roam like our lab does....but he's proven he just can't be trusted with it. It was also pissing off my husband having to constantly clean up after him and causing stress between my husband and I over the issue. Things are much better when we decided to just kennel him when we are not home or sleeping. He's so used to the kennel now and goes to lay in it even when we are home and he could hang out with us.

I'm hoping shackleford will transition well. I don't think it will be a problem because, though a stray for years, he lived at the vet clinic for a year and a half while having his many issues fixed and did fine.

Just hate not letting him roam at night...

Yeah I miss having Butters sleep by me. He's such a lil cuddle bug it was like sleeping with a living stuffed animal, he would just curl up by you and snooze.

My dog is 5 months old and I have to crate him about three days a week, I take him to daycare on the other 2 days so he can run around and play with other dogs all day.

He does MUCH better in the crate than he does alone in the house. If I leave him alone in the house for 2 minutes while I take out the trash, I can hear him crying from down the street. He's fine in the crate though, I think he feels more secure in there.

I'm hoping eventually he'll be ok loose in the house, but I dont see that happening for a while. He feels abandoned and goes crazy.

Those people shouldn't own a dog. That's a crime to have an animal caged for 8 plus hours.
