re: What is your opinion on people who cage their dogs while at work?

people have kenneling commands and training for their animals in one vein and in the next their dogs go to expensive doggy day care and they watch their 'babies' on their computer all day.

Idiotic point. Dogs sleep most of the day. What difference does it make if they sleep on the couch or on a blanket in their crate?
Many times when we're home in the evenings, the dogs will still get in their crate to sleep with the gate wide open.

Because then they would lay on the couches. I just moved into a new house and bought new furniture and I don't want them to frick shite up.
Then it works better for you, not the dogs
We are dog people I guess and just let him on the furniture. You could always get gates and quarantine them in rooms without nice furniture and put their crates in there with the door open.

I've found that dogs that are crated all the time are the crazy energetic ones that seem neurotic about weird shite like weather and strangers.
Yeah, I remember we had a friend with a boxer that was crated all the time, and it would literally piss itself just about every time it was let out of the crate.

My dog sleeps, but he still walks around between naps, barks out the window at the mail man, changes locations, stretches his legs, etc.
I'll ask you teh same question, why can't you just leave the crate door open if he prefers to sleep in it? That at least gives them the ability to walk around and stretch their legs and look out the window.

Haven't read the responses, but I leave my 6mth old dog in a kennel outside ALL day. He has shade, water and 2 ceiling fans.

I don't like crating mine while at work but I don't trust him all day alone in my house. I was letting him stay in the back yard but then he eventually dug a hole and was running loose in the neighborhood. I don't think he minds, he goes in it when I am dressing for work and doesn't bark or anything. He barks more when he is in the back yard wanting me to open the door for him to come inside.

My dogs live outside where dogs belong.

Yikes. Its still 80+ degrees in the shade in Louisiana in the summer. What kind of dog?

Yeah we bought a brand new couch in January and factored in that our dogs would be allowed on it when looking for one. (leather...dog hair just wipes off). I couldn't imagine not letting our dogs on the couch with us.

I'm a dog person too, I just don't see a problem with them being in crates while we're not home. They sleep anyways and have plenty of room to move around.
My chihuahua taught himself how to climb over gates. It's pretty cute and funny to watch.

If I told my guy to jump off the couch, he would look at me like I was nuts, get off the couch, walk to the other side of the couch, and get back on
He is well-trained in every other aspect, but we like him on the couch and bed with us. He's a 75 lb lap dog

Yeah, I put his kennel outside when it's not too cold or hot but its way too hot in the summer for that.

Yeah in AZ having your dog stay outside all day is not an option in the summer. It was 116 yesterday, maybe felt like 96-100 in the shade.

Oh forgot thats you Bourg.
Name change.
Don't you let your dog on your bed? How does someone letting a dog on furniture "disgust" you? Its not like my dog is gross and he barely sheds and we have a maid.

Dude it's a dog, they lived outside for years before AC, they can handle it trust me.
