Reagan assassination attempt.
Of course for days the news would show the video of the attempt over and over. I can remember asking my mother “why do they keep shooting that man?”

Neil Armstrong walking on the moon. It was very anti-climatic. I was seven and expected the capsule door to open and an astronaut to walk out; a little floaty stuff, too maybe. In reality, it was like watching grass grow.

I can remember the Nixon watergate hearings being on TV. Although at the time being 4-5 years old I had no idea what was going on.

Mine would be the space shuttle blowing up. I actually watched that live when it happened. I think it was in 1986??
Locally, it was probably the Gary Plauche event.
Nationally, the Challenger. I remember my 2nd grade teacher being told while we were in the lunch line and I knew she was told something bad, but too young to really think of what it could be. After lunch, we all went into a room where a tv had been pushed in and Dan Rather or maybe Peter Jennings was crying and I knew it had to be important. The concept of the space shuttle exploding didn’t seem that significant to 9 year old me.

9/11 is pretty etched in my mind. Every channel was doing coverage at the time. It was the first time I felt a pretty sad outlook on life. I realized the world is a pretty shitty place.

I remember watching some politician commit suicide on live tv. Guy was in trouble for something and pulled a gun out and killed him self during his press conference.

9/11. Most vivid though is the night we invaded Afghanistan.

Watching Billy Cannon get off an airplane in Baton Rouge with his Heisman Trophy.
The Kennedy-Nixon TV debate with my Dad.
Sporting events: 1958 LSU-Clemson football and Army-Navy game with Joe Bellino.
NOTE: Should the COVID bite my old 70 year old butt, it would be interesting that my first and last watched LSU football games on TV would be the same thing — LSU beating Clemson for the national title.

The Berlin Wall coming down. I was 3 and my mother put me in front of the tv and said this is history.
I also remember watching CNN several years later with Iraq launching missiles off the buildings. HBO made a movie about how CNN was able to get that footage that was pretty great.

I vaguely remember sitting on my dad's lap as he was watching the news about the first hours of the Gulf War.

I can remember George HW Bush talking about the major California earthquake years ago with the collapsed interstate in the background. That’s the earliest news story I can remember watching. I then have vivid memories of watching the OKC bombing news in 1995.

My Mom made me watch some of the live watergate hearings because of the historical implications. Also remember watching evening news about daily events in Vietnam. I remember being confused whenever they talked about the gorilla (actually guerrilla) attacks taking place. I had a hard time visualizing gorillas attacking US troops. LOL

MLK and RFK getting killed back to back.
Little me seeing caskets rolling down the street wondering where muh cartoons are at.
