There used to be nicknames used by Uptown New Orleans folks to make fun of people from Da Parish (St. Bernard) and also the working class people from Metry (Metairie). They called the girls, “charmers” (pronounced exaggeratedly, “CHAHRM-ahs)
Thanks. I finally understand the line “…charmers in my Chevy” from Philip Melancon’s song Down in St. Bernard.
If you can find his out of print CD Hurricane Romance, it is a gem.

What's bad about Eskimo?
Posted on 11/5/25 at 12:36 pm to chryso
Eskimos consider white people calling them Eskimo to be a slur.
But not other Eskimos.

MAGA cult. Of course that is the term used by print media and Dems in Ark. The 64% of us that voted for Trump just tell them to eat shite.

Born in Cape G, but haven't lived there in since about 5, I have at least one cousin that would qualify for whatever you would call them. Cairo IL is the saddest place to drive through.
I drove through Cairo and then spent the night in Cape Girardeau once, on the way back from the College World Series. Cairo looked like something out of Star Trek or The Twilight Zone. I kept expecting menacing adolescents to begin some sort of weird cultural chant or danc... oh wait, come to think of it, that may actually have happened!
Anyway, having crossed the state from KC to St. Louis once in each direction, I can confidently say that MO is a giant, um, sinkhole, but also that Cape Girardeau is probably the nicest part.

Now that is something I would have never guessed, what do they prefer, Indigenous or what?
I think this whole "you have to call them _____" bullshite was started by people who just decided those people get offended by those terms. Like Indian, I was watching something about "Indian Relays". Its a horse racing thing Indians do where they ride a horse on a horse track.. They are racing one another and then at certain points, they have to jump off of their horse and get on another one. They were referring to each other as Indians and the sport is called "Indian".. And its like... So who said we have to call them native Americans? It wasn't even named America when it was just them here..
I understand they were called Indians because when people landed here they thought it was a part of india so they called them Indians..
And like Eskimos. That term is supposedly not the appropriate term to use, but the people who correct you know just as many eskimos as I know... 0.. So how do they know it offends them. And here I am learning they love it.
The only thing I know about eskimos is that they are supposedly not supposed to drink alcohol if they fly. I don't know if its true, but for some reason I always thought that was funny, but evidently alcoholism is huge among Eskimos. And evidently if they have alcohol on a flight because it takes them less to get really drunk, but if they like to be called eskimos then who is determining who gets offended by being called certain names?

Hell, they even went as far as to get the famous "Wop Salad" cancelled and renamed to "Italian Salad".
"They" as in not Italians. It's still called Wop salad in some places like Rocky's.
