Probably a good idea to pass as you have indicated. No title can be a problem or not. Could have been stolen or have a salvage title due to wreck, flooded or some other issue resulting in a “missing” title. The suggestion to look for flood damage (under seats, trunk mat, etc.) made by others is a good suggestion for any vehicle in flood/hurricane areas. A Carfax, for vehicles 1981 and newer is recommended, but not infallible. Your insurance company may run the VIN for you to check the vehicle status. For any vehicle, collectible or not, the Bringatrailer.com website can provide a wealth of information. Search the current and previous sales and read the comments for the vehicle of interest. The knowledge shared by commentators for even some of the most obscure vehicles is amazing. Helps to know that water pump is $4900 and a window lift cylinder is $1500 for that 1968 Mercedes 600 you could buy for a bargain price. The general consensus is to buy the best condition/restored vehicle if you want to save money. Restore yourself if you approach it as a hobby or just for personal satisfaction. It is a personal choice.

There used to be nicknames used by Uptown New Orleans folks to make fun of people from Da Parish (St. Bernard) and also the working class people from Metry (Metairie). They called the girls, “charmers” (pronounced exaggeratedly, “CHAHRM-ahs)
Thanks. I finally understand the line “…charmers in my Chevy” from Philip Melancon’s song Down in St. Bernard.
If you can find his out of print CD Hurricane Romance, it is a gem.
I am going to stop lurking briefly and suggest two favorites - Laurenzo’s on Washington and Federal American Grill on Shepherd. Laurenzo’s has something for everyone, is upscale without being stuffy. Food is excellent and service is polished. Ninfa Laurenzo family. Federal is excellent, just a smaller menu, but should have something for everyone. Both just minutes from downtown.

Forgot about this company. Installed one of their wine coolers in another house several years ago. Had no problems for the two years we were there after installation.

Had a U-Line under counter refrigerator with a conventional ice maker. Very nice with a cabinet matching front. Website says they make a 21” and a 24”. They also make dedicated ice makers. From their site:
Choosing the perfect ice machine for your home begins with selecting a reputable brand. U-Line, a pioneer in residential ice makers since 1962, offers reliable and efficient machines that seamlessly integrate advanced technology with innovative design. Start by assessing your daily ice needs, considering household size, and entertaining habits. Whether you prefer crescent-shaped ice for daily beverages, crystal-clear cubes for cocktails, nugget ice for soft drinks, or craft clear ice for spirits. U-Line has you covered. Next, consider the space for your machine, ensuring it fits well and provides easy access to water, drain lines, and electricity for optimal performance. With U-Line, finding a machine that elevates your lifestyle is simple.
Be aware that they are $$.

From the Grand Duca, mosey a block south to Merus Grill for an outstanding martini.

re: Residential Elevator
Posted by LeftBR74 on 4/26/25 at 12:12 pm to AwgustaDawg
Have had two places with residential elevators (not camp dumbwaiters). One serviced three floors, the other four. Both with a 110/120v, electric motor lifting the car with chains. Both had off the shelf UPS’s and only would go down and unlock the door when there was a power failure. Each had a built in landline phone, so to be your contact with the outside world, you needed a landline. Alternatively, always carry your cell phone. They had a simple way to unlock the door manually from the outside also. Only issues after having one for ten years and the other fourteen, was a failure and replacement of the UPS battery for each about every four or five years and the complete failure of the UPS on one. I was able to service the battery failures myself, but the UPS failure left the car at the second floor and the UPS was at the top of the fourth. In one complex, others had multiple issues with theirs and replaced the electrical components with hydraulic. Be aware - most require a sump in the slab for equipment - should be installed when pouring the slab. BTW - we mostly used them to carry groceries or luggage and transferring the dog when he got to old to do the stairs.

Alamo Springs - just read a review that said it opened back about two months ago, but I would still check.

I second the stop at Alamo Springs Cafe. Assuming you travel there from I-10, you can take Old No Nine Hwy/Old San Antonio Rd north about 3-1/2 miles, then turn right on Grapetown Rd to Hwy 1376. Paved backroads through pretty countryside. At Hwy 1376, turn right and Luckenbach is about a half mile down the road. Fredricksburg is a short drive from there. If you have time, drive the Willow City Loop. It is a private road, but the landowner(s) allow the public to drive through. Fantastic when the wildflowers are in bloom.

Had the car maybe six months. Spouse and I make a quick trip to the Richmond Ave COSTCO for toilet paper and wine. Parked in the boondocks. Came back to this!

re: Magnatrack retractable screen or Le Jardin design. Reviews?

Not familiar with either. Currently have a motorized (120 volt) Phantom (18’ X 8-1/2’) screen that uses a Somfy wireless control system. It was installed by the previous owners. Keeps the porch bug free when needed and opens it up when not. Added the Somfy hub when I installed some new motorized blinds and now can control all with an app. Previous owner installed a Sunsetter awning that is motorized and on the same system. Had a Phantom manual retractable door screen installed at a previous home and was pleased.
