Speed limit mostly 75 and the road is as smooth as you can find in this shithole state

It may be smoother than most roads in LA, but it’s not what I’d call smooth. A patchwork of concrete here, asphalt there.

Whoever cleared the right of way for it must have hired a bunch of drunk pipeline construction rejects.

It's because it is the newest Interstate. It wasn't completed until the 1990s.

But I have to hit 190 before getting on 49 and my kidneys are so beaten to death I’m pissing blood.

I actually prefer trees and greenery along the route versus wide open brown plains. Occasionally see some wildlife grazing on the shoulders

Driving from Dallas to Houma to visit family is brutal when I hit this 200 mile stretch of nothingness

To me the worst part of that drive is I-20 between Shreveport and Buccees in Terrell.

French Mkt gas station on the east side of the big road is legit.
This was always a mandatory stop coming back from Baton Rouge. Their food and desserts are great.

We used to make the drive from Shreveport to Huntsville a few times a year. The longest section seemed like the area between Meridian and Tuscaloosa on 1-20. Just nothing at all.

Between Opelousas and
Ellic there is a serious lack of good under lights gas station food. The two stops in the general Whiteville area suck. There needs to be a WhyNotStop at one of them.

The jarring lack of Gordon, Morris and Dudley billboards and plethora of pine trees and rolling hills certainly has something to do with it.

LA designated it as a parkway. It's no Natchez Trace but it's certainly unique in LA. Hopefully it stays that way for a while. Per state statute-
quote:

§461.26. Designation of state parkways; outdoor advertising prohibited; screening required; exceptions
A.(1) Interstate Highway 49 is hereby designated as a parkway.
(2) U.S. Highway 90 from the St. Mary - Assumption Parish line to the junction of U.S. Highway 90 and State Highway 1 near Raceland is hereby designated as a parkway.
(3) Louisiana Highway 3025, known as Ambassador Caffery Parkway, from Verot School Road to U.S. 90 in Lafayette Parish is hereby designated as a parkway.
B. Notwithstanding the provisions of R.S. 48:461.2 or any other law to the contrary, no off-premise outdoor advertising shall be erected or maintained within visual observation of the main-traveled way of any parkway designated in Subsection A of this Section except as authorized herein.

This is actually officially the longest stretch without an exit of any kind too.
