Whoever cleared the right of way for it must have hired a bunch of drunk pipeline construction rejects.

I met the land surveyor who surveyed the route for the state for I-49. He told me that the section between Ellick and Shreveport the state police /DEA would hide out to catch the drug planes landing on the unbuilt sections (cleared/no trees/grass).
When I was a little kid there were no rest areas on I-49 between ellick and Natchitoches, I remember having my Dad stop and I would go up to the fence line and pee.

I-10 from Pensacola to Tallahassee is worse.

This right here

seconded....although I hate I-81 in Virginia between traffic and Nazi like speeding enforcement (over 80 is reckless operation)

one thing I really want to do again...I-10 from San Antonio to El Paso in something that can move out...would like to do it in less than 6 hours driving time, but I want to do it at night where I can stop and look at the stars without light pollution...

That’s the loneliest stretch of highway in America.

I-95 in Maine and its NOT even close. It makes Jackson, MS to Memphis feel like your riding down the Vegas strip.

I’d be willing to bet I-94 in N Dakota, and multiple roads in Alaska (probably gravel) would be more of the loneliest hwy in America

It always amazes me that the urban area in LA with the best interstate capacity and set up is Alec.

Between Opelousas and Shreveport it is deserted and the only place there are consistently cops is around the St Landry exit

I 59 from Slidell to Meridian MS is a vast wasteland of traffic too. You'll see more deer than cars.

I-65 from Mobile to Montgomery

worst stretch of road ive ever been on. Damn near ran out of gas because several stops had gas stations closed after 9 pm .
