Definitely not dachshunds. That being said, I have three and they are awesome to have around the house. I can’t bring myself to foist them upon society so they stay in the house or fight , frick and hunt lizards in the back yard. Everyone that comes over loves them but they are not the best breed - just fun and I am used to their quirks.

Mountain cur. Got him from the pound in college. He treed squirrels and retrieved with zero training. He loves my mom more than me so he is living his last days at my parents house. A fine mutt.

Jack Russell. Wired hair. Will fight and kill any animal that comes around. 100 percent loyal. Will hunt, blood trail and catch fish.

A good Golden is probably the answer, but I don’t know anyone who has ever owned a herding breed that didn’t decide to stick with that breed for life.

I’ve never had one. I’m more of a hound dog person. But I believe that the OVERALL best dog breed is the German Shepherd.
