That's a tough call...
We've had several labs. Loyal, sweet, and smart to a fault but can be hard-headed and hyper. Our British bred lab is MUCH more laid back.
My husband has bird dogs...pointers and setters. Both wonderful hunting dogs if that's what you need.
I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and she's the biggest snobby princess but loves me like I'm the best thing ever. Has to be in my lap at all times.
Just bought our daughter an Aussie Doodle. Goofy & mischievous like a bad little boy but so sweet and smart.

Whichever breed you own is the best breed.

I had a Schnauzer I was very fond of. Smart, loyal, chill, didn’t shed much, etc.
I’ve always wanted an Australian Shepherd. Every one I’ve been around has been awesome.

I can’t believe there has been no love for boxers in here yet. That’s been my best experience so far.

Love Goldens and any kind of shepherd or collie. Currently have a Sheltie, very very smart.
My next dog, which will be this year, will be a Shollie - German Shepherd and Collie mix. They may look alot like Lassie (which was a male, btw), but watch the eff out if you mess w the fam or are a stranger.

I forgot about boxers. Never owned one, but have enjoyed all the ones I’ve been around. Can by hyper, but just big goofballs.

Love my smooth coat Border Collie. Incredibly smart, alert, protective when needed and only wants to work and please you.

It's definitely Golden Retriever
I get that some people want to be different and there are plenty of good dogs to be had from other breeds (and admittedly some that approach Goldens in the all around category), but even those people know deep down its GRs.

I like Goldens, but would never own one. I’m a bit of a beat freak and all that hair would drive me insane.

my Doberman was the best breed Ive ever owned or been around extensively
Sweet, patient, calm, loyal, always alert, always aware of where I was and what I was doing. Just wanted nothing more in life than to be right by my side and a part of what I was doing all the time. Sometimes it could get a little annoying but the pure devotion of the breed amazed me. Also great with kids, cats, and other dogs. Did not bark much, was very obedient by nature, very trainable, but did require fair share of attention including 2 long walks a day minimum. Shed quite a lot too. Amazing animal.

This is the ugliest breed I’ve ever seen in my life, holy shite
And save me the ‘ohhh but they never shed’ crap. Who the f*** thought it was a good idea to take the most beautiful, majestic breed in the world and then breed it with an ugly arse poodle. That’s like Livvy Dunne hooking up with OWEO

Border Freakin' Collie. No doubt, the absolute best dog breed in the world. Just try to debate the point with one of them.
Also, there is a reason why you see more Border Collies on TV and movies than any other dog breed. They are the absolute smartest dog.

Retrievers and labs are awesome. Boxers are awesome too, but all the ones I’ve had are dumb as hell, but have funny personalities and absolutely LOVE my children
The one I have now follows my boys everywhere they go in the yard and neighborhood. I’ve found him jumping on the trampoline and up in their playset just hanging out with them. When the kids go in the front yard without him, he waits by the gate or inside by the window so he can keep an eye on them. He also won’t eat unless EVERYBODY is home
Dumbass will pace nervously by his food and won’t eat until my wife, all the kids, and I are home, and then dive in head first once he tells everyone hello by the door

I’ve always been a Labrador person and never said I wanted a little dog. I was wrong. We have a Havanese now and she’s awesome. Sure the cat could kick her arse but she doesn’t know that.

Best all around breed is a Springer Spaniel.
