We never had the option; nobody ever showered in any PE class I had in middle or high school, in the late 90s/early 00s.

That’s fricking wild to me. I had 3rd period PE for much of my HS career and would have refused to participate in that bullshite if not allowed to shower.

my oldest daughter was not excited about getting hers. had to push her to go drive. my youngest daughter begs to go drive.

personality differences. oldest was thrilled about covid school from home while my youngest hated it.

Just another generation of coddled titty babies that don't want to take that next step into independence.

This x10. The fact it took this long for this response tells you all you need to know. Fuking snowflakes everywhere.

My 16 yo son got his license ASAP (harder during freakin COVID) and sees one big advantage: he can wake up later in the AM for school and it doesn't take as long to get home as on the bus.

He has a job, has good grades, is about to get his Eagle as a sophomore, so he has it together.

Kids just want their parents to take care of them just like young adults want the goverment to take care of them. Kick them frickers out at 18, please and thank you. Do us all a favor!

Just guessing, but it's expensive to maintain all that extra plumbing and impossible to monitor the kids. I went to public school in EBR and we just had gym equipment stored in the showers.

This isn’t Mexico here. I gotta believe there is a way to let all kids in america take showers after a hotly contested badminton match.

Maybe in Louisiana things are different, in Iowa they didn't make us but it was encouraged to shower before going back to a classroom setting. Sure there were a few kids that didn't, but most did. No one was looking at each other's junk. Throw in a Copenhagen (discreetly), wash your body and dry off and head back to class. I would not have wanted to pay our schools water bill.

Nothing maybe about it. Look at car prices both new and used and the cost of insurance compared with 15-20 years ago.

It’s way too expensive.

So don't get them a car. Why the hell would they not want to have the legal capacity to operate a vehicle if needed?

I seriously dgaf about it, it was like 20 years ago. Just my anecdotal experience and a guess as to the reason. Why don't you go pound down the doors of the school board and tell them you want to talk about kids showering?

If they don't spend the $25.00 this year for their DL and invest it at a 7% return then that is an extra $1448 dollars assuming an average rate of return in the markets for 60 years

Maybe they are wiser than you.

At $10 per ride with no adjustment for inflation or anything, if they only take 145 Uber rides over those 60 years, that 7% return is completely wiped out.

I KNOW they're wiser than you.

You learn pretty quick not to work up a big sweat. Hell our PE classes were only 55 minutes and 25 of em were spent getting dressed and stretching

We know several people with kids that didn't want to drive and just requested an Uber account on their parents' credit card.

The parents all claim it is cheaper considering the cost of teenager insurance.

Yeah, I was just about to say I don't recall PE being strenuous much at all. Us girls mostly just pretended we were doing whatever it was we were assigned.

Overrated, could be a subjective viewpoint, but with the number of distracted drivers this day and age with cell phones, yes it can be perceived as overrated.

I have two coworkers with 16 year olds and they said the cost to insure a 16 year old is astronomical now. I know mine was bad back in the day but I guess like everything else shite gets more expensive.

At the time I was just happy not to have to get fully undressed in front of a bunch of other people. But I remember being sweaty and putting my uniform khakis back on and feeling disgusting. So I'm kinda with you there. Most days I wasn't drenched sweaty or anything like that, but there were nasty days in the sun for sure. Also, without showering, no one is changing their socks or underwear, which is also pretty nasty after getting that sweaty.

They’d straight up fail your arse if you weren’t participating in full. We had 50% frick off shite and 50% real exercise. My freshman year the football coach held a wrestling tournament and made the females all wrestle one another.

So do they take an Uber every morning and then request one every afternoon to get to/from school? Or are they 17 riding the school bus? (You'd have been dogged on horribly in my school for this)

And what about after school jobs? That's like 3-4 Ubers per DAY.

My HS boyfriend lived in White Oak and I lived on the Central/Baker line. I imagine that's like a $30 Uber.

Ah. My parents bought me a brand new Chevy Cobalt for like $10k and put only liability on it (since it wasn't expensive) and paid in full per year, so it was cheap. Full coverage I could see being $$$ these days.

It might be cheaper... but, they are robbing their children a sense of independence and coming of age which will screw up these coming generations in the long run. I wonder if any of them will learn to drive a manual.
