Twin Cities has about 15 Fortune 500 headquartered there, may help with internships. Believe some medical devices and Polaris are based there along the engineering lines.

I heard they’re good at hockey.

Did they ever stop burning the city down?

Toss a coin. Minnesota is AAU, Big Ten, etc., but I hear they serve a lot of Kool-Aid at the refectory.

"Communism" is mostly still a bad word at Auburn, praise God.

If he wanted to be near MN for some reason there is always the University of Wisconsin it is 4-5 hours from Minneapolis.

Yep. If I’m doing Engineering in the Big 10, I’m going to Purdue. I will also say I’m biased towards true college towns and I would not like being in a major urban city.

Minneapolis is a great city but Auburn is probably a better choice from an Engineering School standpoint.

I visited in 2010 and even then it was pretty sketchy. I did have the opportunity to spend time in some of the smaller cities and they were awesome. It was during March and even with the snow I liked it a lot.

Why do people with thousands of posts on this site take these threads seriously?

I'm not sure I do think of the University of Minnesota.

I used to like Minnesota/Minneapolis. It seems pretty shitty these days, though.

Been there several times on academic functions but right now I can’t see that being a good option against Auburn as much as it pains me.

Plus the Indiana version of Laffy is only an hour from Indy and 2 from Chicago.

We are all assuming he can get in pretty much anywhere given we are talking about Michigan and Purdue Engineering Schools. It isn't really far from recommending MIT, Cal Tech, Berkely and Stanford.

The area around the east side of the U of Minnesota is actually pretty nice, the roughest neighborhoods are on the west side of the Mississippi, though unlike BR they have a lot of bridges. The Engineering school is on the east bank.

Cities have become impossible to be great

To me, this makes no sense. There are good and bad areas of every large city. There are also good and bad small towns.

If he wants to do engineering he should go to Georgia Tech.

Minnesota isn’t bad May - November (it’s actually pretty awesome), but it’s cold as frick the other months and the UofMN is in a shitty part of the city
